I first decided that I wanted a nostril piercing a few weeks before the actual piercing. It wasn't a planned piercing as such since I've clearly got plotted out in my head what I'd like. The reason for getting this piercing is because I was planning on getting both nipples pierced and wanted the reminder of the piercing pain. So I decided off the top of my head this would be the piercing for me. And went for it.

I looked up on the internet everything about them and decided that at some point I may like to get a nostril industrial because they look fantastic and I prefer them as it means there are no symmetry issues. And since I already have a central labret this would help keep things even. I choose my left nostril since that one would look okay to me if I decide not to go ahead with the industrial. Although there is no 'right' side to get pierced.

So my appointment time arrives and I go in to the building and meet my piercer. He asked me what I'd like done and I explained, and said I may want to extend the single in to an industrial. He said that wasn't a problem. He sat me down and firstly looked at my nose. He washed his hands and put on some gloves, then took all of the equipment out and placed them on the table he'd just cleaned with a bleach type fluid. He took out a selection of jewellery and asked if I saw anything I liked. He just had nostril screws out. I told him that I thought a BCR would be better and that that's what I wanted. He proceeded to tell me what I wanted was what I'd get. And took out a 1.6mm BCR out. I said that I didn't think that would suit me, with me being female. Finally we settled for a 1.2mm x 8mm titanium BCR.

He drew a purple dot just further forward of the crease in my nose. I went and took a look, I thought that it looked fine. When I came back, he looked at it again and decided it was a little out. So he rubbed off the original dot and drew on a new one. Once again I went and took a look in the mirror. I personally couldn't tell the difference, but it looked fine. I sat back down in the chair and he opened all the equipment up. It was all clean and unopened. He held the clamp on my left nostril and pulled it upwards. This didn't hurt, many experiences I've read say that this was the worst bit, to me, it was pain free. Then he told me to shut my eyes and take a breath and he would pierce me on the breath out. I breathed in...and bam in goes the needle. Now I won't lie, this hurt. But no worse than say you try plucking a few nose hairs out at once.

He then cut the end of the needle off and gave me a tissue. My left eye was pouring with tears. I wasn't crying, it's a natural body reaction. Once I'd cleared the tears, carefully without impaling myself, he went on the put the BCR in. He threaded the ring into the needle then pulled the needle out of my nose, leaving the ring in. Again my eye was watering. The pain of the jewellery being put in hurt a tiny bit less than the piercing. I fixed my eye, so it wasn't streaming, and he attached the ball to the BCR. I went and took a look in the mirror and it was perfect.

I paid him the £10 and chatted to him for 5 minutes about nipple piercings. Then he told me to bathe it in salt water three times a day for a week, then twice a day for a month. It bled slightly, just a tiny bit of dried blood around the piercing exit hole.

For the first three days it was very tender and I barely touched it other than to bathe it. It is interesting how much you use your nose. I smelled lots of things and had to keep avoiding that, and after washing my face squeezing my nose, as in running my fingers over it to remove excess water hurt, when I forgot about it. After the three days it hardly hurt at all, and by the end of five days it was painless. A week later a foolish me, did change the BCR from a silver coloured one to a blackline one. This did make it get inflamed for a few hours and in retro respect I shouldn't have done this because it simply wasn't healed. Other than that I followed the piercer's instructions to the letter and now I have a very nice piercing.

I haven't yet quite decided if I am going to get an industrial, because I have heard that the septum hurts extremely badly.
