This is a story relating my experience in getting my nostril repierced last summer. I had my nostril pierced the year before and kept it in while I was in school. That piercing had caused me some trouble because it kept getting knocked around the first few weeks

It took about 2 months before it healed completely and I could change the jewelry in it. Anyways, when summer came around and it was time to take it out to get a 'decent' job, I was told that it might not even heal over for 2 months and I would be able to put the ring back in without having to have it repierced. After a few weeks however, the hole had sealed over completely and it was almost unnoticeable.
When the summer came to an end and I went to get it repierced, the artist couldn't even see the hole where it was done before! Apparently it had healed over quite nicely. I wanted to get it repierced in exactly the same position and I was told this wouldn't be a problem. The same routine was done.. I had a 16 gauge ring put in, and the piercer made sure that I saw that everything was sterilized and thrown away after it was used. I lay back in the
chair and after my nose had been cleaned, I was told to take a deep breath and when I let the air out, the needle was put through. When the needle went through my nose however, it actually hurt quite a bit - much more than the first time. I was told this was because the
needle had to go through more sensitive scar tissue from the first time. It also bled a lot more, for the same reason. The pain only lasted for a few seconds however, and it wasn't anything that couldn't be handled. For the first few hours afterwards, it was just really tender and had a bit of throbbing pain - nothing too bad. That night however, it started to bleed spontaneously without having disturbed the ring. It didn't hurt at all, but the bleeding
wouldn't stop until it had scabbed over the hole. This didn't look to good though, so I tried to keep cleaning the blood off with some soft soap and water to no avail. Every time I did that it would just continue bleeding, so I left it for the night. The next day I woke up
and cleaned it up again, and just like the night before it started bleeding like crazy and wouldn't stop. I had to keep a little piece of tissue paper on the hole pretty much all day to soak up the blood. That was the only problem however, because after that second day it
was fine, and didn't bleed even when I cleaned it, and turned the ring and the whole deal. It must have been the scar tissue that made it bleed so much because it didn't do that the first time I had it pierced. The second time over it has healed better than the first as well. The first time I had it pierced, I would feel pain when I turned the ring in my nose to heal it, but I can do that now with no problems. I think it is important not to clean it TOO much. That is a problem I made the first time. Twice a day with polysporin and soft soap for the first week, then once a day with just soft soap for the next week, then every other day for the next week was perfect for me. I haven't had any problems so far.
I would definitely recommend this piercing for other people. It is a little more painful than other piercings but the pain only lasts for a second or two. Just take a deep breath and think about something else and before you know it, it will be over! It is
important to monitor it afterwards though to see if you are cleaning it too much, or not enough. If it gets too dry from too much cleaning, it can get infected even easier than if you had not touched it at all. Make sure you are really careful in the first few weeks as
well not to move it too much. If it gets yanked around or moved too forcefully you might have to start the healing process all over again. When you first get it, you can sometimes forget it's even there so it can get knocked around pretty easily.. just be careful and you will be okay! If anybody is thinking about getting their nostril pierced, I would say go for it, it is well worth it! See ya later :)
