I thought I'd write about my tongue-web experience. It's nothing special (it is really), but I know how I look through the BME pages when I get that buzz to have something done, looking for more information and experiences so at least I know what I'm getting into. I'm by no means a heavy bodmoder myself, I've only got my lobes and helix done before this, considered a tattoo but wasn't sure, so I was searching for something that could easily be hidden from my mom but shown to a select few people if I wanted to - my own little secret if you will. I came down to two piercings, either a VCH or a tongue web. Knowing my boyfriend might not be too pleased with a VCH (plus the fact that he hates needles) and I personally wasn't ready for a VCH, I opted for the tongue web. I got my boyfriend's approval and I knew I was ready to go.

On the day I got the piercing, I called up AAA and got an appointment for 4pm. (I'd gotten my helix with them and knew they were pretty good so I naturally called them up). I was really excited. I'd been practicing holding my tongue up as had been described by other users and I was just generally saying farewell to my ordinary tongue web. I got to the studio with lots of time and was looking around for some balls for my helix barbell. When it was nearly time, I filled out the forms as usual (I wasn't asked for ID as I'd been there twice previously) and all I was doing was waiting to be taken upstairs. By this point, I was excited and nervous and drinking lots of water!

Finally it was time, and I was taken upstairs. He asked me to rinse with mouthwash while he got everything ready. He autoclaved the balls and put some gauze drowned in the numbing stuff into my mouth and asked me to hold it down. Let me tell you, it tasted disgusting but like bananas at the same time! I was holding it down with the tip of my tongue and that begun to hurt as it was getting numb. He then asked me to put my tongue up so he could see my web and said it was fine. Then he got the needle, and asked me to move my tongue to the roof of my mouth and forward, just behind my teeth. Before I knew it, the needle was going out and it didn't really hurt! I knew it wouldn't as he'd been telling me as he was getting the stuff ready, but it seriously didn't hurt that much. Next he popped in the bar and therein was the problem. It wasn't a problem per se, more like my mouth was on saliva production overdrive so it was a bit tough to screw the ball on, but then he did eventually. He then let me spit out and rinse to get the spot of blood out.

He explained aftercare to me – rinsing with salt solution or mouthwash before and after meals, first thing in the morning and last thing at night, no alcohol, oral sex or kissing for a while etc and told me to come back in a week to get my bar shortened as he'd used a long one to allow for swelling. He let me look at it and I was quite pleased. It wasn't wonky or anything and it was just a bit sore really. I paid my £25 and I was out on my way.

As I walked off I was practically grinning to myself because of my new beauty. I felt like I had this secret no one else knew about unless I shared it to them. I went shopping afterwards and was talking to a girl I'd been speaking to earlier who I'd told I'd be going to get my piercing. When I showed it to her she was amazed! Haha she thought it was cool, but she felt her tongue getting a bit funny because she never knew it could be done. I think I'd pulled my tongue up too fast or too soon but it 'hurt' for a second, and at one point I thought one of the balls had come loose, but it was fine. I soon learnt not to talk too fast or raise my tongue up so much. I bought chocolate forgetting about the new piercing (I couldn't feel it so much and it wasn't hurting) and had tried to take a huge bite, but I was reminded that it was still sore and so I'd need to get something soft. It's amazing how much work the tongue actually does! Only till you get a tongue piercing do you realise how much the tongue moves just to get food down.

For the first two days, I stuck to soups and soft bread as they didn't require much tongue action. The only pain I felt was just when I moved my tongue too much or when my tongue itself felt like I'd bitten it (don't know where that came from!) but apart from that, it was pretty cool. I've showed a few of my friends now and they think it's pretty cool and I'm just waiting to show my bf now.

I absolutely love my piercing! I wished I'd gotten it sooner. It's a bit exciting that I could have this for years and my mom could potentially never find out, so I'm really quite pleased! It doesn't hurt now and I can chew most things 3 days on so that's always good. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who wants a private piercing and who needs to hide it for whatever reason. It's not your common piercing, it's unique and secretive! It's my special secret piercing. If you need more info or just wanna ask questions, you can always contact me but I think I've covered everything.
