My love for piercings started about a year ago, when I pierced the cartilage on my left ear. Since then, I've added three more piercings to my ears, but wasn't allowed anything else anywhere else because of my parents. But I was itching to get pierced again, preferably somewhere where my parents couldn't see. And so, the idea of a tongue web piercing was born. I would have done it earlier, had time and money allowed it, but only two days ago, the opportunity presented itself. I ended up in Monkys after school with my small group of friends, since one of them was going to pierce her nose. In the beginning, we were all asking questions about various piercings; trying to decide which ones to do. When I asked if, with a web piercing, I could still drink, smoke, and kiss, and the piercer responded yes, I decided to do it. It wasn't all that expensive, and I would apparently be able to go out still that Friday. I told them yes, I'd get it done, and after my friends went, I sat down in the chair and it was my turn.

The piercer had me sit and explained how I was to have my mouth. She showed me all the tools she'd be using, making sure I knew they were all sterilized and such, and explained the whole procedure, and made sure I understood before we did anything at all. I opened my mouth wide, and she got ready to go to work. She didn't mark my web or anything, but I trusted that she knew what she was doing. A clamp wasn't used either, but again, I trusted her. I have a very special tongue web anyway....I'm actually slightly tongue tied, which is why I wanted to pierce it in the first place. I closed my eyes when it came time for the needle, and she pushed it through. I had gone into it thinking I wouldn't feel anything, but I did. It didn't really hurt...just a pinch feeling. The whole thing was kind of uncomfortable though, because of my short tongue, holding it in that position hurt, not to mention that there were hands in my mouth! She cut the needle, and maybe put in the ring...I'm not sure....I had my eyes closed. She told me I could close my mouth and swallow, so I did, and then she went back to work. The longest and hardest part was the rings. I was getting a horse-shoe shaped ring put in, and the balls were pretty small and close together, VERY hard to put in! After a good 15 minutes though, both were put on and I was ready to go. I checked out my new piercing, which I instantly fell in love with, paid, and went to have a celebratory ice cream with my friends.

Eating was a bit weird, but about 5 minutes into my ice cream, I moved my tongue over my piercing and noticed one of the balls had fallen off. I hurried back to the piercing store, but they had closed and were gone. After calling them on their cell phones(which is on their card), we decided I would hope for the best throughout the night and go back to get it fixed the next day. I was horribly frustrated and hoping that I wouldn't lose my new piercing. Through the night, I played with it constantly, trying to get it to stay straight so it wouldn't fall out. My tongue got very sore and the area around the web got slightly swollen. Part of me wanted to just forget the whole thing and take it out. However, at one point it did fall out, and my tongue felt so funny and empty, that I put it back in and decided to do everything I could to keep it. Somehow, the piercing made it through the night, and the next morning I went in as early as I could to get it fixed. On the way over, the other ball fell off. By the time I got to the shop, I had stopped talking, and was just concentrating on holding my piercing in place! They were very nice and fixed it for free for me. It took a good 45 minutes to get the balls on, but they eventually did, and I left the store slightly sore but happy.

I've had them tightened once more since, but after that, my piercing's been fine. I'm still adjusting to having it in my mouth....a lot of time I somehow think it's gum that I should spit out. It's still quite uncomfortable to eat though. I can't move my tongue as far anymore, and sometimes if I try it's painful. At first, it was like my mouth tried to eat the piercing, but now it's fine....it's just strange having something there. I do think it's very cute though. I want to show it to everyone! It's very discreet, which I like...no one knows it's there unless I show them. I play with it a ridiculous amount though. Now, I'm not sure what to think. I really like it, but it can be annoying as well. It collects plaque very quickly. I've been using non-alcohol mouth wash, which seems to work for the most part. I would just like to maybe switch to a bar of some sort....I think it would be harder to play with and not so much in the way as this one. There's also something white at both holes, which I'm not sure is plaque, because of how quickly after cleaning it shows up. I'm hoping maybe it's a part of the healing process and will eventually stop though..

I do recommend this piercing though. Healing time is very quick; you can do everything the same day, and speech is not affected at all. If you do end up getting it though, make sure that the balls of your ring are on tightly! It's slightly painful to get them back on. All in all though, I'm still quite happy with this piercing. At times it's annoying, but it's still very cute, and I love seeing people's reactions when I show them it! I also highly recommend Monkys, they're very professional and VERY clean. If you're thinking about getting this piercing, I say go for it! It's small and discreet, which is perfect for me! No one can see it unless I show them, or yawn really funny. All in all, it's a great piercing!
