Some time ago i decided it was time for another piercing, I had been toying with the ideas of surface bars or another lip piercing (the last wasn't so well received!) What I was really going for was not I don't think to try and be different (because everything has been done and someone is always going to either copy you or put a downer on things) I just wanted something that even I wasnt expecting. (Confusing description...? Yes.)
At A Glance Author benshole Contact benshole@bme.anon When Six months ago Artist ... the guy?? Studio Body Works 2 Location Liverpook (UK) I settled on a tongue webbing piercing. I had been interested in them for ages after first browsing the hell out of BME to find something interesting. Spoilt for choice!!
I thing i fall into that category like many others who get it done because of its discreetness and shock factor for people who don't expect it! I still have a friend now who asks "Whats the point?" I like the attention ok?
When I went to get it done I was meant to be going into Liverpool anyway to meet my girlfriend back from Uni. So I thought what a perfect opportunity to lead her on for a bit, so I told her i was getting something done. Not not where.
The actual piercing part of the procedure was the least painful piercing I have, it was instant, just that almost pleasant almost cold spike of sensation you get. The problem obviously came with fitting the jewellery. I had opted for a CBR as I knew I had the space in my mouth. However thinking back it was the wrong decision to having a bar or a round bar.
Its the most nauseating sensation to have someone tugging at your tongue webbing, especially when they are at it for what feels like half an hour. The ring went in perfectly fine, just followed the needle, although I have to say I did feel that bit! The sudden coldness of the ring was a bit of a shock because I wasn't expecting to be able to feel it. But the main problem came with (you guessed it) getting the ball in. The first piercer was fantastic however blamed it on "Age and failing fingers/eyesight." I was trying as hard as I could to move my tongue forwards to make it as easy as possible to get it in but no dice.
We tried twice each attempt being a few minutes of drooling on myself and the piercer. After the first attempt I was feeling so light headed I was told to have a rest to get some colour back into my face.
Eventually we called for another more young and able piercer, who STILL didn't manage it first time. I guess its just one of those things.
Immediately after the piercing although it was slightly painful and definitely swollen I had no problem talking or eating. I even asked the piercer before I had it done what my speech was going to be like, true to their word. No problems at all.
Within a week it was fine, it felt great. I could do all things that your not meant to do with a piercing like spin the ring round and tug at it. Brilliant!
The problem came some months later when I was trying to clean the plaque off the ring. (Apparently webbing piercings ALWAYS gather a huge amount of plaque, which appears as a pale yellow crust that is VERY hard to get rid of!) Anyway... I was trying to clean the ring, the best way I had round was to rotate the ball in the ring, that broke the plaque from around the edges and allowed it to be picked off a lot more easily. However this time, I rotated the ball OUT of the ring. I tried for hours that night (3 AM by now..) to get the ball back in to no avail. So I thought I would go to a piercers after going to the zoo the next day. So I did the only thing I could think of to keep it in and bent the ring almost closed with some pliers and then had a very sleepless night!
The next morning at my girlfriends I tried to put a normal bar into the piercing but the flesh is incredibly awkward firstly to find the hole even with a mirror, and then keep the bar in while trying to put the ball on. Your tongue appears to actively push the bar out. So I ended up spending the day with nothing in it.
Later one I had a bar put in it at a piercing place in Chester, within that evening I found the ball rolling about in my mouth, but with the bar still in. So I had my Girlfriend try and sort that, which worked! I wasn't happy though, the thing i had grown to love with the ring is being able to click it across my teeth and all the things your not meant to do. Which you obviously cant do with a bar! So when I took my girlfriend to Paris before Christmas I went and had a curved bar put in. Im happy once again now! Its the same sized ring as the first ring but with two balls. So I don't need to worry about it jumping off.
Overall its a fantastic piercing and definitely my favourite that i currently have done, I would (and have) strongly recommend it! Although recently 2 different people have mentioned it without me showing them, so I am beginning to think that I am either playing with it way too much, or it is a little more visible that I first thought!
Either way, its still a beast.
