Artist some "qualified piercer" or so they say
Location Kempsey NSW Australia
Ok, well I decided to get my tongue pierced twice in one day, I had the money and figured why not. My regular parlor was closed the day I wanted it done so I went to a little place on the main street of town. I should have walked straight back out again.

As I walked in all I could smell was pot and cigarette smoke. I spoke to the guy that was going to do the piercing and he said he could do it there and then. I had a weird feeling in my stomach, I wasn't nervous about getting the piercing done as I have had my tongue pierced many times before but have had to take them out. I guess I should have listened to my gut feeling and left. But I didn't.

I followed him into the back room where a dentist chair was placed. He pulled out a clamp, a sealed needle, sealed barbell and put on some gloves. He then touched the chair with the gloves on to move the chair up high so it was easier for him to pierce. I figured he was going to then change his gloves but he didn't (another sign to leave). He then got me to rinse my mouth with mouth wash.

I laid back into the chair and he took a look at my tongue and he made sure the scar tissue from previous piercings wasn't to hard (still wearing gloves the he touched the chair with). He grabbed the clamp and put it on my tongue, it hurt so much I thought he was going to rip my tongue out with them. He then grabbed the needle and shoved it straight through from the bottom up, he didn't even mark the spot to pierce it. He then screwed the ball on and told me to rinse my mouth out again with mouthwash. The mouth wash burnt because I hadn't diluted it and my tongue was bleeding a fair bit. I sat back in the chair and he clamped my tongue again for the second piercing. And this time wasn't different from the first clamp, it hurt like hell. Once again he didn't mark where to pierce and just shoved the needle through. I could taste all the blood in my mouth and as soon as he had screwed the ball on I went and spat all the blood it, there was heaps and it wasn't going to stop anytime soon. I rinsed my mouth with mouth wash, paid my money and left.

I had to go and get ice on it straight away so I went and got a frozen coke icy thing and just ate that for awhile. My tongue had stopped bleeding and the swelling was just setting in. so I took some pain killers and went home. Everything seemed to be going ok except for the fact that my 2 bars where both a little out of place. I just figured it was because the swelling was still up. After about a week the swelling still hadn't gone down and my bars where so uncentred and I hated it. It looked so dodgy and unprofessional. I decided to leave them in until I noticed a green ring around my piercing. I knew this wasn't a good sign because I have had my tongue done before and it has never happened until then. I made an appointment with my regular place and the told me my tongue was infected and the piercings had to be removed. As my tongue was still so swollen they had to use pliers to get the balls off, as soon as the bars where out all this green stuff came out of the holes and the swelling in my tongue had gone down straight away. I thanked my regular piercer and went to the doctors to get a course of anti biotics.

My doctor said I was very lucky and that the outcome could have been a lot worse. I wasn't upset about loosing my piercings but I was upset with the fact that they had gotten infected even though I rinsed it religiously. I should have taken notice of my gut feeling and not had the piercings done at that place.

I've since had my tongue re pierced by my regular piercer and a few other body mods. I will never get pierced by another place except them, I can trust them with my life and I know everything there is sterile.

I guess the lesson I learnt was just because I had the money not to rush into a piercing especially if you haven't researched the place you are going to go to. Always clean your piercing and keep checking it to make sure it's ok. If you think there is something wrong with the piercing then speak up. You know your own body better then anyone else so when something seems wrong get it checked. If you have any questions or queries feel free to email me or add my to msn on aleesha_b_06@hotmail.com

Good luck and happy modding.
