Alright my experience wasn't all the way DIY. Really I had my play mom do the whole procedure for me so I guess I shouldn't say DIY then. Anyway, why did I do it you ask? Because I wanted a piercing that could be hidden from my family. I was told by my mother (the real one) no more piercing's till I'm 18. I only being 15 found that a bit of a problem for me to deal with. That's why I got my belly button pierced without her knowing but that's a whole other story my friend. See I've become a little piercing obsessed ever since I've got my eyebrow, lip and navel done. And still, it's not enough.

We were sitting on a bed talking about piercing's and she mentioned she could do piercing's and I thought out loud, 'well maybe she could do my tongue web'. She said she could and left the room. She came back and told me to go to the bathroom and take out one of my curved horseshoe earrings. She had me sit on the edge of the tub and open my mouth real wide so she could look at my web. There wasn't much preparation in this or cleaning done to anything, I thought about it but didn't really care at the moment. She had lemon juice with a pinch of salt in it in a glass cup and told me to rinse with it for a second (not the most hygienic thing but hey, this was something I wanted and was prepared to do anything). She burned the needle with her lighter then she took a slice of lemon and put it to the other side of my web. She told me if I was ready and I nodded. She put the sewing needle through with no problem at all. It was cool with me because it didn't hurt one bit. She ran to get her phone so she could take a picture of it; she said it was Myspace worthy. You couldn't see it anyway; my mouth was too dark, total bummer. So I had a little break there alone, so I got up and looked at my new piercing in the mirror. I thought it was beautiful even though it was done, plus it was perfectly straight. I was so in love.
Now the problem came when it was time to put my jewelry in. It was funny to me because she said I had to open my mouth wider because her hands wouldn't fit. Her hands weren't even washed when I think about it. Alright so she was pushing the jewelry in and pulling the needle out and it was working because I could feel it but then she said her hands cant go deeper in my mouth like they needed to so she pulled the needle all the way out. She had this idea that she could just push it through the hole that was left. Well we tried that and it didn't work. This is the part were it started to get painful. All the pushing was getting nowhere. She swore she could see the little silver tip on the other side; she just couldn't curve it in my mouth. So at this point we argued because she wanted to take out my curved barbell from my eyebrow and I didn't want to because it's still a little fresh. She gave up and I kept the barbell in. So she went and got one of our friends who had littler hands to come in and try. So there were now more unwashed hands in my mouth and I was drooling everywhere. She too couldn't do it and I was getting fed up of this. I wanted it but it was not worth all this stupid pain. She, my play mother, tried two more times then I told her thanks but no thanks, this was not worth it. So we gave up and my mouth had this dull ache under the tongue for about 3 days then it was fine again. Besides it only really hurt when I talked too much or lifted my tongue up and out of my mouth.
I don't know how un-smart the whole plan was but I have an idea. I was lucky because there were a lot of things that could have gone wrong with the whole thing. But I did my part to make sure nothing bad happened to my mouth afterwards. I know its stupid but I still rinsed with at least water after I ate just in case some food might have slipped in there. So even though I didn't have my piercing I still treated to hole pretty well. Honestly I think I would still try to get this piercing but later on and when I'm actually old enough to get it done legally on my own. But to all you piercing obsessed people such as myself, DIY piercings aren't the smartest thing to do, I was lucky my tongue didn't fall out or anything. Keep in mind, good things come to those who wait.
