I guess I'll start with a bit of background on my story because it's so exciting! Also so you know I sort of know what I'm talking about. I have had my tongue pierced twice before, the first time I eventually had to take the bar out as I played with it too much (yeah, don't do that!) and it had had enough, started sinking into my tongue. I missed it so much I had it re- pierced at the end of May. The placement was further forward this time, I had no trouble with it at all and none since it has healed. My original piercing gave the odd twinge now and then. My tongue was easily my favourite piercing as I had the best piercing experience and loved the way it looked and felt. I wished after it settled and I grew used to having it that I could go through it again, somehow make it even better. Maybe I'm addicted. OK I know I am. Anyway the idea of having a second tongue piercing hit me. Initially I tried to pretend I didn't want it, to put it at the back of my mind. But I know my ways pretty well by now and once I've thought of something nothings going to get it out of my head.

So after at least a whole day of forgetting about it I was walking by Asgard and thought I'd at least see if it was a possibility. I asked the guy who had re-pierced me so perfectly, he checked it top and bottom, said he could fit another bar in behind my current piercing. The second he said it was an option I knew I had to do it. I said I'd come back once I'd found some money.

Fast forward about a month and after starting uni, meeting some new people, I recruited a group who I decided needed showing around the area and some new metal. I met up with them after work and we headed over to Asgard.

We went in and told the girls at the counter what we were after. I asked if Warwick, my tongue master was in that day as I was keen for him to pierce me after the job he made of the last one and the fact he had checked it for suitability. He was, but had gone for a coffee so they had to call him back in. Don't think he loved me too much for that. When he came in he was very fast moving. I was pointed out to him in the waiting room, he went past me and came back with 'the spray.' There in the waiting room he had me stick out my tongue and sprayed the cold bitter banana juice top and bottom. I filled in the forms as my friend was taken through to have her nipple pierced. I was told me and Warwick would have to wait for the room as he wanted to get the best angle and the bench was in the wrong place in the second room. He was very sure of what he wanted but that just gave me more confidence that he knew what he was doing. Anyway, my friend had wanted me to be with her so I asked by waving my hands about if I could go in too. Warwick said I could and to get more freezing spray while I was in there. This isn't about nipple piercing though so I'll skip over that. Basically I was waiting about 20 minutes with freezing spray in my mouth from when he first got me to when it was finally my turn with the needle. My whole mouth and throat were really numb but still my tongue was pretty normal! I'm useless with that stuff.

I hopped up on the bench and Warwick checked my tongue over again, this time really thoroughly, dried it off with some paper towel and marked it up. He used the mark from my old piercing which was just over a centimetre behind the ball of my first bar. Then he asked if it was ok if his trainee watched which was fine by me. I do love to feel special! I was a bit put out that she was there at all after spending most of the summer hanging round there asking if they had any vacancies and having no luck. He said he didn't know I was after a job, but I had asked just about every time I was there. Anyway, rant over. I'll try after uni.

He hunted around a bit for suitable jewellery before deciding I was even more special and required a custom bar. I'm not too sure the dimensions he used but he twisted the end off a really long bar and then switched the balls to larger ones, saying it would help them not to sink into my tongue should it swell a lot. Apparently it was going to be a fairly major piercing because it was relatively far back. At this point he mentioned putting it further behind my original piercing would make it more serious but would leave space for a third one in front of the first one, making a nice row. How kind of him, he must sense my weakness. Evil! I know what I'll be doing after Christmas.

The time had come to pierce. Now I was a little nervous because although neither of my previous tongue piercing had hurt in the slightest, just pushed a little, the vast amount of numbing spray I had been offered and the big build up about placement made me realise I was in for a biggun. He hauled my tongue out with the clamps, not worrying about the niceties and got down to business. The needle went through bottom to top with no problems, he worked fast but accurately. Same as before I just felt it pushing, but it was a little uncomfortable as he twisted my tongue about to get the ball on the bar. Still I'm glad he just did the job and didn't mess about.

After he was done I jumped down and went to spit in the sink. The girl who stole my job handed me a cup of water and I stood for a while just rinsing. Finally the water I was spitting ran clear and I had a quick look in the mirror. I was expecting the ball to be further back from the front one than it appeared but nonetheless it looked a million times better than just one ball! Happy, I thanked everyone, dribbled everywhere and headed upstairs for an ice cream.

By the time I got home and looked again I was a bit annoyed to see the balls on the top weren't quite in line down the middle. After a while I figured this probably was because the swelling had pushed them aside and the back ball was so big. I did check the placement before he pierced so I knew they had been in the right place to start with. Now a couple of days later, the swelling has gone down and they are almost back in place. Panic over. I think it'll look even better when I put a smaller ball on the back bar.

As far as healing goes it's been fairly straight forward. The first couple of days were really achy but ibuprofen and ice cubes have been my friend and I've been rinsing morning and night with Corsodyl which is recommended because it's anti-bacterial but has no alcohol. Do remember to keep your new tongue piercing clean, I know it sounds obvious but sometimes I get complacent and leave it and it does feel better after its been cleaned. I also rinsed with some water after I ate if I couldn't brush.

The one random problem I had was that it seemed a little sore even this morning after four days. I know its not going to be perfect by now but it was a sort of sharp pain as if it was still fresh. I noticed the balls on the bottom were kind of pushed together because there's not as much space under there as there is on top and wondered if that was keeping the new one in an unnatural position and stopping it settling in. This morning I decided it had had long enough to deal with me touching it and had stopped swelling so I swapped the large ball on the bottom for a small one. Immediately it felt better and it made cleaning and checking the bottom easier too as there was less metal in the way. I think that's all the important stuff covered. Hope I've helped somebody a bit, and feel free to get in touch if you want!
