Well, I always wanted to get a tongue piercing, but was afraid to get it because in my mind, I thought that the procedure would be very painful..but as I kept on looking at pics on the BME site, and reading the stories; I finally decided to get my tongue pierced.

The only problem was I didn't have money at the time.

So, I waited till the beginning of October, when my check came into my account. While I was waiting, I kept on reading on info and gobbling up as much as I can so I could make sure that I knew what I was getting myself into. I read about aftercare and how to take care of the piercing properly, what to eat, what not to eat...all that fun stuff. I even had a date planned. The week before getting pierced, I went to the mall to talk to Joey, my piercer..I asked him as a favor to see if he could check my tongue and tell me that it was ok to get it pierced. He looked up under my tongue, and told me that it was perfect for piercing, and that it was A-ok. Happy and oh so jittery, I waited till the following week to get myself pierced.

Come the day of the piercing, I'm all happy and excited to get my tongue pierced, but at the same time I was very nervous to get it done. My boyfriend was worried about me, and hoped that everything would come out all right. We get to the mall, we get to the piercing area (keep in mind this is Puerto Rico we are talking about, it's not the same thing as American piercers, but they are extremely safe, and take extreme care to get a piercing done.) and ask if Joey was there. The girl there said no, but to come by later because Joey would be back by then. So, we went to get something to eat, I went to Taco Bell and had the last chicken burrito I would have in a while..with extra sour cream, yum!

All the while, me being anxious and waiting till 3:00pm to head back to the piercing place (finally!) and get my tongue pierced. I get there, and wait for a girl before me to get her navel pierced. Joey got her finished up, and then it was my turn. He asked me to sit in a chair, and to relax. Then he gave me a little cup with Listerine and told me to rinse and gargle, then spit it in a cup and throw it away. I rinsed for 30 sec. then did what I had to do and threw it away. Then, Joey took a pair of sanitized clamps, straight out of the package, and secured them with a rubber band for tightness and pressure. then, he took the needle out of the sterilized packaging, as well as the 14g. barbell itself. When I took a look at the barbell, I noticed that it was not as big that I had imagined it would be. And with that, the nervousness was gone. I wasn't anxious anymore, and was quite ready to get it done. Joey put on a pair of latex gloves, lubed up the needle and got the clamps. he asked me to stick out my tongue, then I looked up while he clamped me. The clamps didn't hurt, though there was a bit of pressure. Then, he told me to take a deep breath, and he pierced me, perpendicular from the bottom up. Next thing I know, he puts on the jewelry and tells me I'm done. Keep in mind that the piercing was only done in half a second. Surprisingly, it didn't hurt at all. Then he tells me not to eat hot or spicy food, drink lots of iced water, and eat mushy stuff.

After I'm done, and I paid him, I left really happy, and feeling pretty weird. I started to talk funny, at this moment while I'm typing this I still do. It felt weird having a piece of metal in my mouth, but I started to like the feeling. I went to buy some water, to help the swelling go down, and some Popsicle Scribblers...they work really well! Get some! When I went to McDonald's later that night with my cousins and my boyfriend, I had a McFlurry and a cheeseburger deluxe, it was kind of hard for me to eat, and I was really scared that I would bite on the ball, so I took little pieces bit by bit.

I slept well last night and woke up only with a little swelling, I went and brushed my teeth and tongue and do the mouthwash procedure like I usually do.

Then, I went to the mall to meet up with my boyfriend's auntie and his cousins, I showed them my piercing and they went absolutely nuts. Then she recommended to eat mushy stuff also, I took her advice and bought baby food and soup. It's been fine until now. My boyfriend is very proud of me, because I didn't even move or flinch or anything when I got it done.

If you are thinking about getting your tongue pierced, I think you should go for it! (^-^)v. You will not regret getting it done, and you'll love it. The pain will go down in a few days, but it's worthwhile. The piercing itself either is a itty-bitty pinch, or nothing at all. Keep in mind, the tongue is a muscle, there are no nerve endings there, so chances are you won't feel anything at all. Good luck and happy piercing!
