So I have always wanted my tongue pierced since I can remember even more than my belly ring which I got when I was 13. For years I'd bring the subject up every couple of months to keep it fresh in my parents minds. So I'm fifteen now and a couple months ago I discussed it with my mom and she gave the ok as long as I could convince my father. My dad comes from a very old fashion family so I figured this would be fun. At first he basically said no because he doesn't like the click noise it makes when people play with it, stupid reason I know. All in all I pulled my weight more at home and made the honor roll and I got him to give the go ahead. He was like well I dont care its your tongue not mine. When I had gotten my belly button pierced my mom just took me he didn't have much say but a tongue is a bigger piercing than a belly button ring so we needed to discuss it. And thats when my adventure began.

I have a cousin Annie who goes to UAlbany who I haven't seen in months because she currently doesn't have a car. She got her tongue pierced over the summer and she knew I've wanted mine for a long time. My mom agreed since it was spring break to let me go down and visit. She also said while you are there get your tongue pierced so I don't have to be around for it because I get queezy. I'll save you the details and just say I got it done.

Annie and I took a bus to Lark Street and walked to the piercing place. By then I was working myself up pretty bad for no good reason I just do that. We got in I signed some forms and went into the back.

I sat down and then had to swish listerine around for about a mintue which made my tongue all tingly. Then Rebecca marked my tongue and used the forceps to look on top and under it to make sure I was ok to be pierced. Then she clamped the forceps which I couldn't tell were there and twisted my tongue a little bit next thing I know she goes ok just let me screw on the ball to your jewelry. I was shocked. No pain at all. She made it so I
couldn't even tell the needle was in her hand before she pierced it which is very helpful. I give high recommendations to this place if your in the area. Its a wierd sensation because you can feel the needle going through but its not a pain feeling its just like wierd there is something sliding through my tongue. By this I was relieved. She read me the aftercare and annie came back with ice and we were on our way.

The rest of that day my diet consisted of macaroni salad, ice pops, ice, and ice cream. Not to shabby. By later on in the night because I was talking so much I developed a little bit of a lisp but that im told goes away. My friends were making me say different phrases because with my lisp they sounded funny. Being in a dorm I met a lot of people and there all very curious on how my procedure was and if it hurt. Now its the morning after and im a little swollen but not in pain. I have yet to try to eat but I figure I could get down some apple sauce and soup. Last night I slept with a couple pillows to keep my head elevated more that way not all the blood would be near my tongue to make it swell more. I also find that when your eating put the food on either side of your mouth with your spoon or pfork or whateverand chew there that way you barely touch your tongue except when your swallowing. It helps trust me, you may look funny but hey who cares, your the one with the tongue piercing.

After you eat or smoke or drink anything but water you gotta rinse with diluted listerine to rule out infection. But infection in the tongue isnt that common because there are natural enzymes in your mouth that fight off bacteria. Pretty nifty huh? You should also do salt water rinses every once in a while because it helps no matter how gross it tastes. Any kind of anti inflamitory like advil or ibuprophen helps with the sweeling as well. If your thinking about getting this piercing go for it. It really doesnt hurt. The swelling of your tongue makes u notice its there more but its not painful.
