For many years I have been a huge fan of body modification, even before I could get any of my own. I think that piercings are incredibly beautiful, and are another way to express one's self. Throughout my 15 years of life I have acquired 11 piercings. Three in my ears, three in my tongue, nose, navel, lip, and nipples. All of my piercings have successfully healed except for two that I used to have on the bottom of my navel, but that's another story all together..

I hate when people get pierced just to be "in" and not because they honestly love the piercing. I'm also a fan of the more original piercings. It seems as though everyone has a center tongue piercing and not to say that they aren't great, they just aren't original. After seeing so many of the same piercing, it seems to lose it's original value.
I'd felt the addiction for a new piercing tugging on me for a while, so when my friend Danni called me yesterday and told me she was going to get her nipples done, I was more than happy to tag along. She was going to a piercer who had done my nipples perfectly, so I was excited for her. At the time I wanted to get one more on my tongue directly behind my original tongue piercing or to redo the two that I had to remove from my navel.
We got to his apartment and hung out for a while. Rick is an awesome guy just to sit down and talk with. We all had thousands of questions to ask about piercings, and we got all the answers we wanted (although they were sarcastic and blunt, haha.)
Eventually Rick asked what everyone wanted done. I said my tongue, Danni said her nipples, and Katie said her vertical hood. Katie went first. Watching her get pierced slightly made me change my view on genital piercings. They scare me a lot more now, not to say that I wouldn't get one. Then Danni got her nipples done. I was amazed at the extent he goes through to make sure every piercing is perfect and done with precision. I loved watching them go through what I consider one awesome experience. I also liked to watch their faces contort into little grimaces, but then it was my turn.
When he checked my tongue I unfortunately found out that I wasn't built right for another piercing in the center. So after a lot of contemplation I decided to go for two piercings, one on each side of the center. I got a little nervous so Rick told me to sit down for a while to calm my nerves because he didn't want me passing out during the procedure. He's very obsessive compulsive with his piercings. After a few minutes I was ready.
I went over to the sink and cleansed my mouth with mouthwash, my eyes started to water from the burning sensation. Then, going through the usual procedure, Rick gave me my needle in the package to make sure that it was sealed and brand new. Then he marked my tongue, erased, remarked, ect. Once everything was perfect I was instructed to stick my tongue out as far as I could. On went the clamps for the first piercing...
He asked if I was ready and I nodded. Through went the needle. It hurt a lot worse than the center piercing, but it was definitely bearable. By this time I was drooling all over myself and struggling not to drown. The second piercing went the same. Surprisingly there was barely any bleeding. Afterwards I rinsed again and was on my way. I love my new piercings, and am very proud of myself for going through with it.
The hardest thing about oral piercings for me is not smoking. Needless to say one of the first things I did after I was done was light up a cigarette to calm my nerves. Every time after I smoke I do rinse my mouth. Also after I eat or drink anything other than water. I've been rinsing obsessively actually.
Unlike the center piercing, these hurt a lot more. It's incredibly difficult to eat. I've been drinking yogurt mainly. My tongue is huge right now as well. I'm not sure how long they are supposed to take to heal. I know that once they are healed this pain and uncomfortable...ness will be well worth it.
If you are thinking of getting more piercings in your tongue I would definitely suggest it. The pain isn't that much worse, and the result is oh so much better.
I just love my new mouth full of metal. :)
