I had been wanting to get my tongue pierced for a while now, and I figured that since my 18th birthday was right around the corner and I was out of my parent's house it would be the perfect time to do it.

There was a problem though, I didn't want to go do it by myself and all of my friends that wanted it done weren't of age. So I talked to my brother's girlfriend and she said that she would come with me and get it done if I could pay for her's too and then she would pay me back - BIG MISTAKE! I never got the money back for it but oh well.

One day we were sitting at my place and decided to take the drive and go get it done since I had the money for it.

We got there but we hadn't made an appointment or anything, so we ended up having to wait for about an hour. During that time I was getting quite nervous. She took our id's and had us fill out paperwork so that kept us a little busy, but after that I tried to keep myself busy by looking at magazines and flash and everything. They had pictures on the computer of people that they had pierced so I decided to look at that.

A lot of people had come in just in the time that we were waiting and we hoped that none of them had appointments because the wait was getting tiring. Then our turn came to go in. I decided to go first, so that I wouldn't end up backing out and I just wanted to get it done and over with. While we were waiting for her to clean everything up we picked out our barbells. I decided to get a cute barbell with red balls on the ends.

She had me wash my mouth out with mouthwash. I sat down in the chair and watched her get everything ready. We were all joking around because she knew that I was nervous and that my brother's girlfriend was watching so she needed to make it look as painless as possible so that she wouldn't be the one to back out. She marked my tongue and asked if I liked where it was. I did, so she got the clamp out. Everyone had told me that the clamp hurt really bad so I was really nervous. She put it on and I couldn't even really tell that it was there, besides the fact that my tongue was stretched out. She explained everything that she was doing and told me about everything. She got the needle in position and I starting trying to talk to calm myself down, and ended making myself laugh at the way that I sounded, which was good anyways because it took my mind off of the actual poke. Then, I felt a little pain at the bottom of my tongue. That was it! I was so happy. Then she said that the needle was through and she had to put the balls on. There was a little pressure when she was tightening the balls because she was pulling a little bit. I thought that it was going to hurt so much worse. A little pain, that was it. I think that the fact that I ended up drooling was worse than the actual pain.

I sucked on ice for a while and drank a lot of cold water. I thought that it was a breeze, until on our drive home. It started to swell and hurting worse. It wasn't unbearable pain, but just a little.

The next morning I woke up and my tongue was huge. It was so hard to talk. I sounded so funny, everyone had a good laugh out of it. For the next couple of days my tongue remained swollen. I tried to eat a few things but there were many things that just didn't work. Every time that I ate something, I ended up biting my tongue because it was so swollen.

Well six months later, no problems. Everyone has always told me to make sure that my balls are on the ends tight before I eat, well I never had any issues with them so I just tightened them every once and a while. Wish I would have listened. The other night eating tacos I bit down and felt something quite hard. You get the idea, just make sure that you always tighten them.

Well I am very happy with my tongue ring. And even though I haven't gotten any money out of my brother's girlfriend, I am happy that she went with or I probably wouldn't have done it.

There are a lot of people that I know that want to get their tongues pierced and I say to go for it. The pain is nothing and its really cute, so if you are thinking about it, go for it. You won't regret it!
