Studio The Tunnel (Foxx Works)
Location Alliston, Ontario
I'd been talked into driving to Alliston a month or so ago by a friend who wanted her septum done and had told me that I just HAD to meet her piercer Russ. I live in Aurora, Ontario on weekends and Kitchener, Ontario on weekdays (college is there, and so, alas, am I) and I'm always up for a road trip to places I've never been before. We headed up there and I got to meet Russ Foxx who was doing my friend's piercings, turned out to be a pretty cool guy and I was diggin' hanging out with him. So out of pure spontaneity (as is my nature) I went and had my eyebrow re-pierced along with my lobes... mom says I'm out of the will *laugh*. As I was talking to Russ I realized his tongue wasn't completely together and asked him about it, he told me he'd had it split and we chatted about it for a while, at first I was a big weirded out but after all of 2 minutes I thought it looked great! We left Alliston and for the next couple days I couldn't get the idea of a tongue splitting out of my head, I grabbed Russ' email off my friend and started talking more seriously about it with him.

Over the next couple weeks the idea of splitting my tongue was nagging heavily at me and I wanted it done more and more, so I began to ask other friends (piercers) about it to get their thoughts. Everyone had a differing opinion on it but it was unanimous that they thought I should get it done, but no one knew exactly what way to go about it. I hit the Internet with the energy of a fat kid going for a cupcake and within an hour I had 10 pages book marked on tongue splitting and every way possible on how to go about it. With a little more information under my belt I called up Russ again and we decided to pierce it at an 8g and then stretch it to a 6g or a 4g, depending on how impulsive I was being and then using a scalpel to cut it. I bugged Russ for a good couple hours about splitting it without piercing because I'm one of the most impatient people I've ever met but he was against it, mostly because it would grow back and he wanted it done as badly as I did. Honestly through out all the planning he's been giddy as a schoolgirl and it's hilarious, I think he wants to do it as badly as I want it done.

Finally we got back together (complications with him not having an 8g needle...and me being a poor bastard) near the end of March, I ended up having to drive from Kitchener to Alliston, an adventure that we shall never speak of again *laugh*. I eventually got to The Tunnel about 10 minutes after they had closed, so I called Russ and he was chilling out upstairs typing away on the internet. He came downstairs and we had a smoke and decided to go grab some subs because I had failed to eat anything that day, I've got a medical condition... I'm lazy. So we trolled around for a bit then headed back to the store, we shared a moment having a last smoke in tribute to my soon to be de-virginized tongue and headed on up to his studio. I sat down and Russ explained how he was going to pierce it and how I should take care of it for the next couple days. When he was getting ready with the clamp he wouldn't let me look at the size of the needle he was putting through, I guess he assumed Id fr eak out or something, so after marking my tongue and clamping my tongue he checked everything out with a light to make sure the needle would go through and told me to take a deep breath in, then to let it out. On the way out I felt something the size of a telephone pole make its way through my tongue, I looked very cool with my tongue hanging out and letting my drool fall into the cup I was holding under my chin. We then encountered a bit of a problem, the balls were too big to take off the clamp! So as Russ sheepishly told me this I mumbled for him to just take the balls off one at a time and take out the clamp but he wouldn't have it, he was concerned that the bar would fall out if he took off the top ball. Russ ended up cutting or bending the clamp, I'm not sure because I was focusing on the chunk of my tongue that had landed in the cup and was amazed I wasn't bleeding more than I was. So the clamp came off, we cleaned up everything and I took a look in the mirror... awwww yea I was impressed as hell! We took some pictures and Russ was impre ssed on how little I had bled from it, heh but I was more looking forward to the splitting because I knew that we were one step closer.

We went back outside and I tried smoking with my new tongue piercing and it really wasn't anything bad, Russ gave me some instructions on after care and told me to grab plenty of water on the drive home. So we parted ways and I drove home trying to keep my tongue numb with all the cold water I had bought for the trip. Over the next couple days it was swollen as hell and my attempt to keep this new piercing from my parents lasted all of 30 seconds... hey who knew that parents weren't total fools! It's been just over a week and my tongue has (almost) gone back to normal and I'm antsy as hell to take another trip to Alliston to hang out with Russ, show him how its healed... and begin step 2 on my road to the scalpel. Soon after that he and I head off to Toronto to finish the job, damn I hate being impatient! Thanks Russ, if it weren't for you I'd still be in my parent's will *laugh*, and you know what, it was all worth it.
