Here goes my tongue piercing experience so far... I had my tongue pierced 2 days ago and I am already in love with it! I had wanted my tongue pierced for about 6 months and no matter how many times I pleaded with my mum to get it done, she always refused until I did some research.

One of my friends has her tongue pierced but that wouldnt be good enough to persuade my mum! I needed unbiased research. So I went onto the Internet, came across this website, and used some information. I also researched the things which could go wrong ( if your parents wont let you get your tongue pierced, do research it really works!) I put forward my case, for and against getting my tongue pierced....and....she finally said she'd think about it.

I treaded carefully around my mother for at least a week and as it was coming to the end of my exams we decided to go after my last exam (which was Physics - oh god!). I got home from school, cleaned the house just to make sure my mum would be in a good mood, and my friend Catherine came over. I didnt feel nervous or anything. But then my mother came home! She was in a very bad mood! Eventually we piled into the car and drove to the piercing studio. The atmosphere could be cut with a knife.

We werent very familiar with the area and we did get lost, although we were going back to the place where my mother and I had gotten our belly-buttons pierced. After 20 minutes of my mum swearing and shouting we finally arrived!! Initially my mum didnt get out of the car, but I asked her to come and she did in the end.

We walked into the place, the floor had just be cleaned, so I felt relieved to know it was still as clean as it was last time I had been there. Maria was standing behind the counter, she had pierced my belly-button before. She asked what I wanted, my age and I told her. We sat down and admired all the available tattoos plastered on the walls.

Then I was called in. Mum followed me and I could tell by her expression that she was not to pleased. Maria asked me about how my school feel about tongue piercings, and she went through the usual aftercare routine. Then Maria asked my mum whether she wanted to stay, she didnt, so I quickly asked Catherine to come in. Maria joked and said that she wasnt going to pick her up if she fainted! First she sprayed this disgusting stuff in and around my mouth, she told me to swallow it, which I did after a while. Oh god it tasted gross! Then swilled my mouth out with mouthwash and I couldnt feel my mouth so that stuff had worked. Thank god.

She dotted my tongue asked me if I was happy, and I thought it was too much towards the front but she said that it takes much longer for it to heal if it is placed further back so I said ok then. Next I had to sit straight towards Maria and she kept telling me not to move my head, then she said "Close your eyes" I tightly closed my eyes and I could feel something cold on the bottom side of my tongue, then I could feel the needle go up through and it was a real sharp sensation. Then she put the bead on, I think anyways, my eyes were still closed. "Thats it" I washed my mouth out loads so any blood would go, it was hard to spit but I soon got the hang of it. I looked in the mirror and I was pleased. Catherine really liked it aswell. We payed said our goodbyes and that was that. We got into the car, but I didnt want to show my mum as I knew she still disapproved.

I found it hard to talk, but when I did talk it was ok. We dropped Catherine home. And we popped into some shops to stock up on ice, tip-tops mouthwash, nurofen etc... When I got home I couldnt stop admiring my new piercing. I text my boyfriend because I really couldnt be arsed to talk to him, my tongue hurt too much lol! I had a tip-top and went on with the rest of the day.

Next day I felt groggy as I had hardly had any food before my piercing so I had a few more tip-tops, I took 3 Nurofen which helped. I relaxed at home and text my friends for most of the day. My friends Kate and Erin rang me but I found it hard to talk so I stayed quiet and let them carry the conversation.

Well today my tongue is still swollen but Im still loving it. Maria told me to keep with it and once its healed it'll look brilliant.

I would highly recommend doing research on any piercing as I learnt a lot and thanks to that research me mum finally gave in! And if you are having second thoughts about having your tongue pierced, I would just do it, its a great piercing and Im so pleased I've done it :)
