I don't know if it's just me or what but I honestly think that piercing's are addictive! I have almost everything done on my ears as well as my belly button and my nipple. So after 11 different piercing's I was getting tired of having the same thing as everyone else and of course my craving was back for something new. But I wanted something most people didn't have. So I set out on an Internet surfing mission to find something new and unusual. After a while I came across the tongue web piercing and I knew that I had to have it. I wanted the common tongue piercing for years but thought that this would be more my style (if there's such thing as a "piercing style"J)

So they referred me another reputable studio in Edmonton, which I called and they said they would do it. So I booked the appointment for later that night and called my best friend right away to tell her that she was coming with me.
When we arrived at the studio I filled out the forms saying that they're not responsible if your tongue falls off and all that other jazz. (I'm just joking about your tongue falling off.... I hope you figured that out!) Then I just sat down and waited, the piercer was running late. Finally he was ready. First he told me to choose which ring I wanted. Either a sold ring with one bead or the one with an opening in it with a bead at either end. I decided on the more traditional ring with a blue bead. I put a blue glass bead in it instead of the metal one that came with it. He said that the glass might break or chip but I was willing to take my chances. Next he led me to the back room. I hopped up onto the doctor like bed and sat there while he got everything ready. Of course I was watching him like a hawk making sure everything was clean and that he washed his hands, I'd never been there before and you can never be too sure. Next he asked me if I had any questions. I didn't because I'd done a fair amount to research. So he went into the whole explanation of what would happen.
He said that it would be quite difficult to do and that I would have to hold my tongue very still. But he said that because I had to hold it up pointing to the back of my mouth it would get tired probably very fast. However I'd have to do my best. Also it would be best if I didn't swallow because this moves your tongue. I was just supposed to let the drool run down my chin. He gave me a paper towel to catch the drool. He also said that I needed to be still so the needle wouldn't poke me in my cheek because it would be so far inside my mouth. It would also be a little difficult, he said, to insert the ring and the bead and that it may take a little time.
Next he made my lift my tongue backwards (so he could see the underside) and lay it down again over and over. I guess he was checking to see the right spot to pierce in. I'm not too sure exactly. Next I rinsed my mouth for 30 seconds with some kind of mouthwash that was really nasty tasting.
So now it was time to do the piercing. I opened my mouth really wide and lifted up my tongue. I had my eyes clenched shut so I really had no idea what was happening. A minute or so passed and my tongue was getting tired like he said it would. Then finally he pierced it. I thought it would hurt a lot but it was actually the least painful one I've ever had. So now I was coming down from huge adrenalin rush and was actually was feeling quite faint which was weird because that had never happened before. I could slowly feel myself starting to pass out. I couldn't believe that was actually happening. So I tried to breathe deep breaths. I guess this gave him enough time to insert the ring. But was still going to pass out. I think he noticed because he asked if I was ok. I shook my head no. So he told me to lie down on the bed thing that I was sitting on. However this was the most uncomfortable position because I swear the bed was only 3 feet long and I'm 5'10". So half my body is hanging off the end. He decided to but the bead in while I stayed lying down. But now the drool that was running out of my mouth before was accumulating in my throat and choking me. I had to swallow. I guess my doing so didn't interfere with him inserting the bead. Thank goodness because I was choking on my own spit and I don't think I signed any disclaimers about dieing from choking!
He had quite a difficult time getting the bead in, it probably took 6 minutes just to do that. But I didn't mind. When it was finally in I sat up and he asked if I was O.K. now. I was, so he gave my a few last reminders about the do's and don'ts. Like rinse with salt water after eating or drinking anything and don't kiss anyone with to much saliva. I was given a pamphlet with aftercare instructions and after I paid I headed out.
It's been only a couple of days and my tongue is quite swollen and it hurts to eat or move my tongue. I've been living on smoothies and yogurt. The ring I have in right now is too big and kind of annoying so I'll go get a smaller one in a few weeks. My speech is a little lispy which is understandable since I have a ring under my tongue now. I'm getting used to it slowly but it still feels really weird. All my friends and people I work with think it's really weird and ask where I got such an idea. But I'm totally happy with it and love that not very many people have it done.
I would defiantly recommend it to anyone and if your scared about the pain, don't worry, it really didn't hurt much. It was totally worth it!
