For a long time I had longed for a large gauge centre tongue piercing but I wanted to learn more about them and look at other peoples before I got one so I of course turned to the Internet for answers. "Piercing" is what I typed into my search engine and that's when it happened, I stumbled across bmezine.com the Internet site that would change my mouth forever.

So research was done, pictures were browsed, experiences read, a whole lot of thinking was done before I finally decided to get my tongue pierced. I went to Marc, a guy who had pierced me before to ask him a few questions. Marc took one short look at my mouth and said my tongue web was too far forward for me to get pierced so home I went. I spent a long time looking at that tongue web and thinking "it's not THAT far forward" but I enjoyed my teeth too much to risk it and besides it IS a long web. I was pissed off but decided I'd look at off centre tongue piercing thinking that I could maybe get one instead even with my long web.

Imagine my delight when I discovered that my tongue web was not a curse but a blessing. The tongue webs I looked at were so cool and I figured they wouldn't affect my speech so much either SO more research and more thinking (ok not THAT much) the next day I went back to see Marc and he gave it the thumbs up.

Here is where the fun begins. I took my friend at the time James with me because he wanted to get a CD and some new jewellery for his lip piercing. He regretted coming. I went in and lay down, got clamped up and was ready to roll. Needle in, not too painful. Barbell in, a little bit more painful but fine there was however a problem, a wet mouth makes latex gloves slippery and a man's big fingers can't reach in to my mouth (however big it may be) to screw the ball on to the bar so he asked James to have a go. James lost two balls in my mouth then Marc himself tried again, no luck. I tried, my fingers were too big. Finally Marc's friend came in to say hello and decided that if he and Marc worked together they could get that ball to screw on, much fiddling later they did it. The next few days I filled the ice cube tray a million times for ice drinks, brushed my teeth all the time, salt washed my mouth after every meal and used anti bacterial mouthwash every morning and night. A fter a few days a layer of yellow formed around both holes, I picked at it with a toothpick, which probably wasn't the best of ideas, but it looked nicer afterwards. The next day the yellow was back but not so much, I just followed my cleaning regime and it was gone in a few days.

The piercing looked great, I loved it but the barbell was quite short and my manual toothbrush couldn't clean the gunk between the balls of the barbell and my tongue so I changed to a CBR and all went well until it started to get grimy and I couldn't clean it just by mouth washing so I made the best purchase you can if you want a tongue web piercing. An electric toothbrush. If you but a cheaper, less powerful brush you can polish the crap off your jewellery without hurting your piercing, it makes it look great and stops it from getting all sore and yellow (YUCK!).

Since I got my electric toothbrush I haven't had a bit of trouble with my tongue web piercing and it looks fab everyone thinks it either fucked up (older generation) or damn cool (younger generation) but most of them ask the same question "why?"

I'd have to tell anyone asking this question that I get pierced for the rush it gives me, the way it looks, the reactions I get and the hours of fun spent playing with it (not recommended until after healing is finished). I would recommend tongue web piercing to everyone they are fun and they look great just as long as you get them from a good piercist so that they don't reject and leave you in a lot of pain. This probably wont happen to you though so don't worry too much about it folks.

I certainly don't regret having my tongue web pierced in fact it has been a great experience for me plus it has inspired me to get a whole oral web theme happening. No pain no gain. Smiley piercing here I come!
