I never wanted my tongue pierced. Well I never wanted my tongue pierced until that dream. About 2 weeks before I turned 18, I had a dream of me getting my tongue pierced. After that I knew I had to have it.I am the kind of person, who once I get an idea in my head, I never stop untill it becomes a reality. I decided to wait until after the holidays for my parent's sake, plus Christmas shopping had emptied my wallet.

My friend Jess called the studio in the morning to make our appointments. They managed to slip us in at the very end of the day. The entire day I was extremely anxious, excited and nervous. I couldn't wait to just "get it over with". Finally, after many fights with my mom, my friend came to pick me up. After picking up my other friend (who was also getting her tongue done), her mom and little brother, we finally made it to the studio. In we walked, out of 6 of us, only 2 were getting work done...moral support. They weren't quiet ready for us when we got there, so I took a seat. I was feeling this incredible adrenalin rush. It was the most amazing feeling in the world. (Since my tongue I have had several other piercings and tattoos, and I still love that feeling)
Finally after what seemed like hours of waiting, they were ready. None of my friends were allowed in the room, so off I went, my friend with one piercer and I with the other. Once in the room I did a quick scan. Everything was very sanitary and it smelled like my dentists office, I took that as a good sign. He had me rise out with Listerine for a couple minutes while he prepared the clamp and the needle. After rinsing my mouth was numb. For me, the rinsing was the worst part. He quickly told me what he was planning to do and then handed me a paper towel to hold under my chin in case of drooling. At this point I almost couldn't stand the tension anymore. I stuck out my tongue; he clamped it and made the mark. I closed my eyes and the next thing I knew, he was telling me that he was tighting the jewelry. It was over; I was pierced. I couldn't believe how easy and painless it was.
He went over aftercare with me, allowed me to spit my excess salvia and a little blood out and take a drink and then he sent me on my way. I was done a little bit before my friend. When I came out it was the usual questions: did it hurt? Let Me See, how Bad did it hurt? My tongue was swollen for a couple of hours afterwards, but all and all it wasn't too bad. My body welcomed my new piercing with open arms. As soon as we left the studio, we headed out the local CVS to get listerine and glyoxide. I highly recommend the glyoxide, it worked wonders for me. I attempted to eat that night, but it wasn't happening. I was slowly becoming more used to having a piece of metal in my mouth. I watched a movie with my friends and then headed home to show my parents. They were more suportive than I thought. They even bought me popcicles to help with the swelling. The morning after was the worst. It hurt a little and it was still a little swollen. 2 popcicles and a couple of advil later, w e were all set.
I was very strict on my aftercare. My friends couldn't believe that I went 8 weeks without kissing someone, but I did. I wanted everything to heal perfectly.I rinsed after eating and used glyoxide twice a day. I had heard and seen horror stories of pircings gone bad. During the initial couple of months after having it done I put up with the same questions: did it hurt, how much did it cost, what did your parents say. I felt unbelievably special; I loved answering questions about it.
It's been almost a year since my first body mod and I couldn't be happier. Not only does it look great, I feel great. It's something special that I can't describe. To anyone who is considering getting his or her tongue pierced, I say go for it. It's an amazing experience and the end is definitely worth the means. I also highly recommend following the aftercare instructions exactly. It will help it heal faster, and nothing is better than being able to say "I told you so" to a parent who didn't believe it could be done with no complications.
