All right I know it sounds weird 8 weeks of hell. The 8 weeks of hell was the time I spent trying to convince my mother to let me get my tongue pierced. She said it was very unbecoming on a 16-year-old. So I spent all of my extra time in between taking my girl to the movies, going to football practice/games, and school, looking stuff up on line about it good and bad stuff to show her. All the while I got lectures from my sister and her friends about how much they love the way it looks also that mom would never let me get it done. Well needless to say at the end of the 8 weeks it was my birthday. So I told her I wanted it to play with and I like the way it looks. Then I presented to her the info I had found on it, the good and bad stuff to show that I am willing to take a chance on it. Then I let her read some of the good and bad experiences I had found on BME. After that she had no choice but to let me get it done so we left to go find a suitable studio

I had a hard time finding a piercing studio that I felt comfortable in. When one of my friends that was going to get his done as well was at a studio called 4:20 so I stopped to have a look. When we walked in friendly faces and the wonderful smell of strawberry incense greeted us. Needless to say it was a comfortable environment so I decided to get it done there. Eric the piercing artist sat me down and explained the procedure while I rinsed with some nasty mouthwash. He told me the risks and factors that play into the whole thing. A key thing to look for when trying to find a studio is honesty and someone who is open about the sterilization process and things like that. Eric autoclave sterilized the jewelry and got a brand new needle out of a sanitary package. He put a dot on my tongue and had me look in the mirror to see if I liked where he had it. I did so I sat back down and he put the clamps on my tongue. This was the worst part of the whole thing. My girlfrie nd who was holding my hand told me that I was drooling which I already knew and that it was dripping on my shirt. Eric then told me to take a deep breathe and pushed the needle through my tongue I felt a little pressure and that was it, next thing I know the needle drops into my lap and he puts the bottom ball on the barbell. I was so amazed at how fast and painless he did it. It was awesome! Eric handed me a paper with aftercare instructions and provided a large bottle of Listerine for me to use after eating drinking alcohol or smoking.

At first it felt very strange having it in my mouth and I came very close to just taking it out because I could not get used to eating with it because it always feels like there is still food stuck to my toungue (this only lasted for about a week and then it was like braces I just got used to it being there and don't even realize I have something in my tongue half of the time anymore). It has now been a month since I got it done and I have not experienced any swelling or soreness (people say I am just lucky that way).

-Here are some dos and don'ts for great healing-

-Don't smoke!

-Rinse with mouth wash at least twice a day.

-Don't play with it for about 2 weeks

-If you bite it don't freak out just stay calm otherwise blood will rush to your head and your tongue will swell!

-Oh and sleep with your head elevated.

-I advise you to wait and let the piercing studio you went to to get it pierced change the ring for you after 2 weeks I have a friend who tried to change his own after a week and he ended up with an infection.

I am happy with the results of this piercing. I think that if you like the way it looks you should get it done it's a fun thing to play with and there are many different rings you can put in it for different effects. If you are underage and need to convince your parents you can email me for some really good tips (believe me I tried everything). Hope you have as enjoyable of a piercing experience as I did.
