A Postive UK tongue experience.

Ive wanted my tongue pierced for about 4 years but I was just always too scared because of the pain (or what I thought) which was involved. I read a lot of the experiences on BME and they certainly helped me alot.

It was coming up for my birthday and my mum asked me what I would like so I told her I wanted my tongue pierced. She was quite shocked but she said she would like to come with me when I get it done because she has heard so many negative stories about it, so the next morning i was off work so I though 'why not' so my mum and I headed off in to town.

We arrived at the Tattoo studio at about 10 in the morning and it was full of people. They were geting turned away or getting told to come back at a later time because they were so busy. I just presumed I would have to come back another day. A young guy came over and asked me what I wanted done. My mum told him I wanted my tongue pierced because I was too nervous to speak. He said he could do me just now and it would only take 2 minutes. My mum later told me, before I had the chance to reply he took me through in to another room - I didnt even have a chance to think! I am glad he did it like that because looking back, I was really nervous and I probably would have not got it done!

As I said,I was very nervous but kept calm and I read in someones experience that they took deep breaths while they were getting it done and that helped them so thats what I did! It was the same young guy who was doing the piercings but he was very proffesional and explained what he was going to do. He made me fill out some forms first then he sat me down on what looked like a dentists chair and told me to stick my tongue out as far as I could. He then sprayed something on my tongue which made it go completley numb. I couldnt even feel myself swallow infact I am sure I was dribbling! He then took the needle and put it in from bottom to top then screwed the ball on and that was it. There wasnt even any blood! He then gave me some mouthwash to rinse with and told me about the aftercare. To be honest, I wasnt even listening because I was in shock that I actually got it done and felt no pain at all. He even had to get the £25 out of my wallet because my hands were shaking s o much! I felt really silly but he said he gets worse people than me! I have to say that getting my 3rd ear piercing was sorer than getting my tongue pierced.

My mum was probably more nervous than I was but she was glad to see I was OK. She ended up getting a tattoo of a small butterfly on her shoulder which was quite funny. Now she cant say anyhing bad about me getting my tongue pierced!

The next 2 days were not so good especially since I had to go to work and deal with customers all day. My tongue was swollen, I couldnt speak and all I could eat was mashed potato and drink through a straw. After everything I ate or drank I rinsed with mouthwash or warm water with salt. After 4 days I was talking fine and I found I could eat almost anything. I was still rinsing my mouth with salt water though because I didnt want anything bad to happen to it!

It is now about 8 months since I had it done and Ive had no problems at all. I think I changed the bar about 2 months after I got it pierced because I was scared to go back sooner as I thought it would hurt! I never felt a thing.

I have even convinced 3 people at my work to get it done after I got mine done because just like me, they thought that there would be a lot of pain involved which in fact there is none. I am still convinced that my breathing had a lot do do with it! It sounds silly I know but it did it for me.

I just cant believe I felt no pain getting it done. I owuld definatley recommend it to anyone who had doubts. I waited 4 years to get it done and I only wish I did it sooner. The other experiences I read made me realise it wasnt all what I though it would be.

Thank you BME.
