I've been wanting to break this good girl image for some time now. I started by getting my naval pierced January 31, 2001. So now 10 months later I got to thinking about what else I could get done. My cousin had just gotten her tongue pierced and I can still remember thinking how gross that was and how horrible it looked. So, then I started to research it after thinking how cool it could be! I came to BME nearly everyday to read and check out new pics of tongue piercings!

But I also had no intentions of backing down either! I convinced my friend to go with me and get hers done as well. I told her it was a piece of cake and you only live once right?! So we went after she got off of work.
I went first, man was I nervous! (I probably would have tried to chicken out if I had seen my friend do it first!) The piercer looked at my tongue and decided I had the "perfect tongue". Okay, whatever! (but it made me laugh and take the edge off!) I swished the nasty listerine around for a minute, made my tongue all numb and crap and then he went to markin' on my tongue. I didn't even look at the needle or anything, I was just ready to get it over with. I didn't feel a thing really! The only thing that hurt like a bitch was when he was taking out the needle and putting in the bar. For some reason that really hurt! But before I knew it he was done! Wow! I had this rod through my tongue! I was so afraid to move my tongue at all! I couldn't even get it out of my mouth. I was too afraid it would damage it somehow. My friend went next, her's went pretty well except she bled, whereas I didn't. That freaked her out! So now we had it! We went driving around, laughin g at the fact we had our tongues' pierced. So far it wasn't swollen or anything. But on Saturday, if there was ever a day I wanted to take it out, it was then! My tongue was so swollen, my glands were swollen and I couldn't even conceive of eating anything! I kept taking advil and sucking on cold stuff! And nearly everytime I went by the mirror I would look at my poor tongue and wonder what the hell was on my mind when I decided to do this! But I just kept remembering that this will soon pass and I will be so in love with my piercing! Well, come to find out my friend couldn't handle that Saturday and she took out her piercing! Man! That's $40 down the drain for her! She was also real worried about what her family thought of her piercing! Man, who cares!!! Your bod!!! I had called my dad that night to tell him what awesome thing I'd done! *lol* He wasn't exactly the most thrilled about it, but he's cool with it!
It has now been a week for my piercing and I totally LOVE it! I am so glad I went through with it! It was such a small sacrifice for such an awesome piercing! I'm already planning my next one! *lol* My tongue is barely swollen now, if at all, I eat whatever I want with no problems, and my speech is just about normal. (still have probs with my 's' and 'th' sounds! :-) But I totally recommend it to anyone! It is a blast! And the best part is, that if I ever "need" to use that good girl image, no one has to know I have it. But when I want to show my true colors, it's there for the showing! I can't wait till I can get the bar changed out to a shorter one!
This is by far the best piercing I have! I have several in my ear and one in my naval and my tongue hurt far less than all those combined!!! I say GO FOR IT!!!
The advice I have for anyone wanting to get it done is to just do it! Reseach it, know your piercer, be prepared to tote around your listerine bottle, or in my case the biotene bottle, and be prepared for those who are anti-piercing to eat your fave foods while you are still sucking on applesauce! Those frozen pop-ice's rule with your swollen tongue! You can just set it on there to numb it back up or can actually it and do the same. I had mine pierced where I would have a few days off before I had to try to really talk at work! Your best friends are your bottle of advil, your bottle of biotene and ice!!!
