Well, this is the story of my tongue piercings........

I am 20 so I didn't need my mom to sign for me, but I asked her to come with me since she has been there for all of my piercings and tattoos. (I have 2 tattoos, ears, eyebrow, and belly button also pierced). So, off we went.
We got there right when it opened just about so I was the only person there and I was taken right away. I went to rinse my mouth out, came back in the room, and he did it. It didn't hurt for the first day, but the second to fifth days were pure hell. I couldn't eat anything and I could hardly drink. I went to the place where I had gotten my tattoos done so they could look at it. It was soooo crooked they said!! So I took it out and once it healed, I went back there to get it pierced instead of the first place I had gone to.
This time was soooooo much better! He looked over my tongue extensively, marked it where I wanted it, and pierced it for me. The clamps didn't hurt like everyone says they do. And you only feel the needle for like a second. It only swelled for about 2 days, but I drank a lot of ice water and took a lot of Advil. It works wonders, really. It'll be a week tomorrow and it hasn't hurt one bit since I got it done. And I've been able to eat since day 1.
Here's what I ate the first day:
Crackers, cheese, ham (all stacked together), soup
second day:
steak, mashed potatoes, corn, pudding, soup, fries, grilled cheese
Things pretty much went on normally after I got it done the second time. I am so much happier this time because I can eat, drink, and I've had absolutely no problems at all with it. I can also still play all of my instruments, so that's a huge plus since music is my life.
I am glad it worked out the second time, because it is definitely my favorite piercing that I have. Many people didn't think I would do it, but I love it. My grandma even took me out to lunch the second day I had it done and she didn't even notice. I could eat perfectly fine.
This is what they should do when you go to get it done:
Make sure you rinse with mouthwash before you get it done
Look over your tongue extensively for veins and all that good stuff
Mark it in a place where they won't hit anything and ask for your approval
Use clamps to pull your tongue further out of your mouth
Pierce it from the bottom up
Screw the balls on tightly for you
Make you rinse your mouth out again
Give you information about aftercare
Answer any questions you might have
I was told to use:
Biotene mouthwash, suck on ice, and take Advil or some other type of ibuprofen
DO NOT use mouthwash that has alcohol in it...... it ends up killing the necessary things that keep your tongue from getting infected.
Also, don't use gly-oxide. It's not a good thing.
Make sure the piercing studio you go to is clean and you can see them taking the clamps, needle, and jewelry out of sterile packages. Make sure your piercer wears gloves.
It is a good thing that you feel comfortable when you are getting pierced. If you do not feel comfortable in any way, leave. It should be a good experience and it won't be if you are in a situation in which you are uncomfortable.
Also, if you go to a place where they do tattoos and piercings, like the one I went to, make sure they do the piercings and tattoos in separate rooms.
The only other thing I can say is, make sure if you want this done that you are doing it for you. And if someone doesn't think you should get it done, do what you think is right for you. Not many people were too supportive of me getting it done, they thought it would get in the way of my music or they thought it was completely, off-the-wall disgusting. But I did it because I wanted it and didn't let what anyone else thinks get in the way with what I wanted. So do it for you, not anyone else!!
Well, I think that's about it. It definitely was the least painful of all of my piercings. And I love it the most out of all of my piercings, too. It was worth it. If you have any questions, email me.
Happy piercings :)
