So i finally decided to go get my tongue pierced after years and years of wanting it. its not that i was scared or anything, because i do most of my own piercings (so far nose, 8 in ears, belly button). i just wanted a professional to do something as major as my tongue.

so i go down to this little tattoo shop in my town, which has a reputation to be fairly good. and it is. the only thing that really freaked me out was all of the swastika tattoo designs all over the walls. i guess thats what i get for living in a very small narrow minded town.

anyways i told the artist, who was named art (ahahha) that i want my tongue done. he gave me a sheet with all the risks, benifts, care procedures, ect, and made sure that i read them first. then he asked if i still wanted it done. i said yes, and he gave me a cup of mouthwash to go wash out my mouth with.

when i came back from the bathroom he was all ready to go. i sat in this really comfy chair. he showed me the barbell and how he was going to put it through my tongue. then he determined the spot he was going to pierce, clamped my tongue and put the barbell through. when i opened my eyes, i had a tongue ring. yay! it really didn't hurt at all, like i expected it to.

then i got the whole spiel about what not to do with it. no oral sex, no chewy foods, no beer!! (ahh no beer!) he told me i could get a yeast infection from the yeast content in beer. (yikes)

my tongue started swelling up immediatly and there was a little bit of blood. i had a hard time talking for about a week, and i didn't dare try to eat for about 4 days. it took me about 3 weeks to get used to talking normally again, but it was totally worth it!!! i am so glad i got it done, because its been a wonderful thing for me :-) and my boy toy seems to like it too. it gave me a bit of a lisp that you can only hear when i am singing. so it sounds really funny when i am on stage with my band and screaming my ass off. its been about 6 months since i got it, and i have had almost no problems.

well except for one. *this is a good story* the same night i got my tongue pierced, there was a punk show at a bar that a bunch of us had planned on going to. so we went and when i got to the bar, i figured...ahhh what the hell i'll have a long island iced tea. and i drank maybe half of it, because i just couldn't seem to handel it (lemon is evil). half way through the night, i really didn't feel so hot and i thought i was going to barf. so i hauled ass to the bathroom and went into a stall....and passed out. some girl had to drag me out of the bathroom and try and wake me up. it took over 15 minutes to do so. when i woke up i felt like shit. the only thing i can attribute to me passing out like that, is my body was still in shock from my tongue ring. i hadn't had enough alcohol for it to do anything. after we got in the car, i had to puke out the window because i felt so sick.

LISTEN CAREFULLY!!! avoid puking with a fresh tongue piercing!!! it is one of the most horrid things ever to experience. it burns like hell (damn stomach acid!), and the pain is so bad, it makes you want to puke more. so folks, take it easy after you get a tongue ring...no moshing, no drinking no puking. seriously...take it from me!!

as for the healing, well it went fairly smoothly. the artist warned me that if i played with it too much or talked too much, i would get a white ring around the piercing site because the barbell would be pushing foreward. he said it is just scar tissue and it would probably go away. lo and behold, i got the white ring. apparently i talk too much. the white ring is really gross because it makes you look like you have some fungal disease in your mouth. but it does go away. my piercing healed fast because i rinsed it with salt water and mouth wash twice a day. sometimes more. i found that my tongue oozed a little bit, and well that is probably the most disgusting taste ever. i talked to a lot of people who experienced the same thign as that, and someone suggested to me to carry around tic tacs. its was a great idea. the coolness of the mint soothed the pain from the piercing. just some handy little tips for y'all. they worked for me.

one last tip. make sure the beads on you tongue ring are screwed tight everyday. its not fun when you are eating and all of the sudden you realize that you have swallowed a bead. not fun.
