After years of 'window shopping' and having my first lobe piercing done for twelve years at the time (My parents had them gunned when I was only a few months old I believe, bad I know!) I decided it was time for me to begin stretching my ear lobes. I wanted to be sure of myself that this is indeed what I wanted to do, as of course after you begin stretching past a certain point, the tissue never really goes back to the way it was beforehand. It didn't take me long to decide upon this though, as I had been fascinated with the idea of stretched lobes for quite some time. So it was decided upon, I would begin stretching my ear lobes. Originally, I had a goal of only to go to about a four gauge as it seemed quite large to myself at the time. Though with each stretch it almost seemed I was addicted to going bigger, and bigger.

My first set of ear holes (the ones being stretched) were pierced with an eighteen or twenty gauge, as they were gunned and are generally done with either gauge to start. So my next size would be a sixteen I decided. I set out to the store and purchased a pair of sixteen gauge captive bead rings. Brought them over to my friends piercing shop (as well as other jewelry I had) and got them autoclaved. I wanted to be sure they were totally clean, even though they were new when purchased, I didn't want to risk an infection of any sort. I brought them home, stepped into my washroom, and the ring slid right in with room to spare! This was due to wearing really heavy jewelry the past few years so the skin was already stretched quite a bit under the weight of it. I decided to keep the sixteen gauge captive bead rings in for a week, while I went shopping for twelve gauge rings instead. I don't think it's a good idea to skip sizes, but my ears were already stretched due to the weight of my previous earrings.
This time, I bought a steel taper and decided to wear that as jewelry. Great idea, huh? Not. There's a reason why they aren't meant to be worn as jewelry. They got caught EVERYWHERE, on my hair, clothing, in my sleep, in the shower, etcetera. Soon enough my ears were red and irritated to all hell. I quickly set out and purchased some twelve gauge captive bead rings instead, hopefully to calm them down and I could continue stretching. The captive bead rings definitely did the trick and they were completely fine again in a week, of course with the aid of sea salt soaks. After my initial stretch to a twelve gauge, I decided to wait another month after I had the twelve gauge captive bead rings in as my ears were irritated and i'd rather not risk that happening again.
So I stretched to a ten, then waited about a month and stretched to an eight, and eventually I got down to a four. I was still displeased with the size, as it didn't look as large as it did before I started stretching, so I went bigger. Up to a zero gauge I thought, then I think i'll stop. Again, as soon as I got to a zero I wasn't satisfied. By this point though, my parents had started to complain about my stretched ears and how I was 'wrecking' my body, so they begun taking away privileges from me until I took them out. This was very disappointing then again I was only 12 at the time so I had to listen to my parents. Since then, my ears had completely closed up back to an eighteen gauge. So I had to start, all over again. I decided to hide it from my parents this time. I don't think it's a good idea to rebel against your parents, but everyone does it anyway. So again I slowly worked my way up to a zero gauge, and again, was unsatisfied. To this day my ears are only at a 1/2 inch due to some set backs such as money for jewelry, and spending most of my money towards other mods. I'm still not satisfied with my ears and I think I am going to stretch them until I can't stretch them anymore, or of course until i'm satisfied with their appearance. Judging from my past and current feelings I don't know if i'll ever be satisfied with them!
Thanks for reading and good luck to all of you who plan on stretching their ears in the future. If you are unsure about it I say do it! It is a totally worth while experience!
