I got my scaffold done over a year ago, about a year and a half ago. I was only 13 when I got it done, although was less than a month away from becoming 14. Even though I was this young, the piercer still did it for me because I had a parent with me (they didn't really mind me getting it done either.... well, they didn't really know what a scaffold even was!!) and they signed for me.

I went with my Mum and a friend. I was planning on it for ages and a lot of thought was put into it. We decided to go to the Pain Factory in Drogheda (in Louth, Ireland) because it was the most professional and hygienic one that was close to where I live, and my friend's Mum has been there before and said it's really good. When we got there, the studio was on the top floor of a very high building. By the time we got up the multiple flights of stair, I was exhausted! When we went in, I could smell the disinfectant and could hear the buzzing of a tattoo gun (they did tattoos as well).

I had already booked the piercing with Dec (the piercer) for a specific time but we were early, so we had a look around. In the studio, there was a large selection of body jewellery for sale and we looked around there for a while. My friend was also getting her ears pierced for a third time, but she didn't want to go first and was quite nervous about it, so I went first (which I didn't have any problem with because I like going first and getting things over and done with).

He showed me the bar that he would use for it and proceeded to getting his things ready. I was waiting nervously in a chair, not really knowing what was going to happen next. I hadn't gotten a piercing done with a needle before so I was quite nervous. I thought it was going to be very painful and so I was on the edge of my seat! Dec got the callipers and measured the bar and then marked my ear where these measurements were. He then cleaned my ear for a good while and got on with the piercing.

He said he would do the piercing on the rim of the ear (the lower piercing) first. He put on the clamp. I had heard before that this was the sorest part, but I couldn't even feel it! He then went to do the piercing. I took a deep breath on the count of three and he had pierced it. It wasn't sore at all! I was delighted at how little pain it was, although I knew the worst was still to come. "Now this is where I take a tea break," said Dec. We all laughed, mine slightly more nervous than everyone else's. He said that I bleed a bit more than usual, but it was OK. He then went to do the second piercing. This time my deep breath was a million times deeper than the first one! It was a good bit sorer than the first one, although it was still nothing that you would be moaning about or anything. He then put the jewellery in. In all honesty, this was the sorest part! He then told me I was free to go!

The healing process went very smoothly and I had no problems at all. It was sore to sleep on for a good while and I always avoided sleeping on that side, and even now when it is healed it gets sore if you sleep on it a lot. The thing about having two piercing done at the same time went grand too. I thought it mightn't have went so great because it would be hard to keep the two of them in good health, but I was wrong, much to my pleasure! There was one bad thing though, I cleaned the piercings with Savlon! I know now that that was quite stupid as it can be bad for piercings, but my piercer actually told me to clean it with Savlon, and I didn't know any better, so that's what I did! Even though I cleaned it with Savlon, there was still no problems with the healing process. This would be the only bad thing I would have to say about my piercer (that he recommended Savlon).

I was extremely happy with how it went. It wasn't as sore as I had expected and everything went very smoothly. I was really happy with the piercer and I would recommend him to anyone. All in all, it was a great experience and I now have an extremely cool piercing that I love!!
