I got my daith piercing done in December of 2007. It was my 12th piercing and I had been thinking about getting it done for ages and had come to the decision that I definetly wanted it. I loved how unique it was and how it looked with a ball closure ring in it. I was only 14 when I got the piercing done, but I know my piercer personally and we came to an agreement that he would do it for me even though I was very young for this piercing. Plus, I am quite mature for my age and I thought everything through and didn't get it done for the sake of it or as a spur-of-the-moment thing, so age wasn't much of a problem this time.

I was planning on getting it done during a trip up to Dublin with my friends. I had avoided getting it done for a while. I don't know why though, as I wasn't afraid of the pain or needles and wasn't nervous about it, but I decided to go in and do it about half way through the day.

I filed out the details form and paid. When it came to picking the jewellery I went for a bar because I didn't like how big the BCR was (I like the BCR to fit around my daith). 2 of my friends came with me to the piercing studio but they didn't come into the piercing room. Paddy (my piercer) got his stuff together and I was ready to roll.

I entered the piercing room to be greeted by a smell of disinfectant (much to my liking). I sat down and he marked the area. The main wall was a massive mirror which I attempted to see the marking in when he asked me if it was OK. This proved quite hard, as I couldn't really turn my head so that I could see in the mirror and the marking to be noticeable. But I let him proceed with the piercing anyway. I didn't realise that he wouldn't be using a clamp (I don't know why I hadn't though) and after he had cleaned it I expected him to put on the clamp. Instead, I felt a strong pressure being put on my daith. I remember thinking to myself, "God this very sore for the clamp!" The pressure was very intense, and there was A LOT of it! After about 5 seconds the pressure totally stopped and I thought "Now for the piercing! This is going to be bad!" I was waiting for a lot of pain when I noticed he picked up the jewellery and went to put it in my ear. "Wait, is that the piercing done?!" I said. He told me it was, while looking at me funny as if to say "You must have felt that!" He put the jewellery in and I was free to go.

I couldn't believe how well it went. I thought this would be a very sore piercing, but it wasn't half as sore as I expected! I would say to anyone who would be considering it but are unsure because of the pain factor, don't worry about the pain whatsoever, it isn't as bad as you would expect it. I think it was a great experience and well worth it. I would recommend my piercer, Paddy, to anyone. He pierces in Bodyshock, which is in Temple Bar in Dublin (Ireland) and it is a very professional, hygienic and friendly place.

All in all, it was a very good experience and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

The only bad thing I can say about the daith is that it is in such an awkward and hard-to-get-at place and it was very hard to get any jewellery in it, never mind screw the ball on the jewellery! Also, it's very hard to see in the mirror or that yourself and this makes it hard if you want to see how it's doing when its healing. In saying that though, the healing process went absolutely fine and there were no problems. It took about 3 months to heal fully.

However, as much as it is in an awkward place, it is one of the only ear piercings, I have found, that don't interfere with sleeping. All of my other ear piercings are quite uncomfortable to sleep with (but I put up with it!) except the daith. The fact it is so hidden means you're not really lying on it.

So yes, that was my daith piercing experience and my recommendations and conclusions on it! Thanks for reading and hope you enjoyed the story! If you want to know any more about it just email me :and I will happily chat about it! Happy piercings everyone! :)
