Today I was in Yarmouth a terribly tacky coastal town near where I live that is full of tourists, joke shops, chippies, doughnuts and seagulls. I'd actually heard a few bad stories about Art Attack regarding tattoos a few years ago but it turns out they are quite good and one of my work mates goes there every time. So I decided to give it a go, I wanted to get my chest tattoo extended (it shall one day be a half sleeve!) so I popped in and asked if they had any space to do a tattoo or possible a piercing. The lady told me that they could do a piercing straight away. So I went for it, I'd had no thoughts on what i'd get if I didn't have a tattoo so I took a while trying to work it out. I decided on a beautiful rook piercing.
At A Glance Author Jettica Contact jet.musicpromo@gmail.com When It just happened Artist Lady piercer Studio Art Attack Location Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, UK I've found that in the UK no one know what a rook, daith or snug piercing is so trying to explain is complicated. I really want a load of snugs done but no piercer is ever willing to do them. If anyone knows any decent piercers in East Anglia who won't shy away from snugs then let me know.
Anyways, I was taken through into the back. It was packed, one girl was getting her foot tattooed with a few girly mates giggling around, then there was a bloke (another tattooist, receptionist??) and his girlfriend and finally me and the piercer behind a curtain. I was nervous, I've been in cleaner studios but nothing worried me too much. We sat behind the curtain on a little bed and the lady piercer, who was lovely and really good, she told me she wouldn't be able to do anything to freeze my ear but I didn't care. I thought I was hardcore enough and it couldn't hurt any more than my conch.
I'm not sure how everything progressed as I couldn't see. I'm not sure if she clamped it but something hurt, maybe a clamp or her pressing the needle against where I wanted the piercing. Then came another, bearable pain which I thought was the piercing. God was I wrong. Then came the piercing, it was painful. I won't deny that. I think she had some struggle getting it through as there was a lot of wiggling around and pushing. It took a few pushes to get it all the way through.
Then I assume the little plastic bit was left in whilst the needle came out (I'm not familiar with the piercing process) I was bleeding from all the wiggling and she told me that my ear was unhappy and was bleeding. Then the plastic bit, I think, came out and she either had to push it through again or push the needle through again. Either way it hurt loads all over again.
Then came the jewellery, a little ring. She struggled to get this through too and was really pulling on my ear to get it through. Finally it was through and she popped the ball on.
I have never felt dizzy or sick from a piercing before but I did. I'm sorry to those that are reading this wanting to get this piercing but yeah it does hurt. It hurt me a lot BUT, it is well worth the pain. It may not even hurt you, you know what these piercings are like they hurt some and not others. I am glad I've got it done and although I wouldn't get the other side done due to how much it hurt, I don't regret it.
I must've been in the piercing process for a good five minutes, a lot longer than any other piercing. I felt very light headed after wards and doughnuts were called for. I felt better but my whole body now feels like lead. I don't think it is very happy with me putting it through so much.
I took a pain killer and it took the edge off, now the dull, warm, throbbing pain is coming back. It's my other half's birthday gathering tonight so I'm hoping that a few drinks will sort me out. It's also a good chance to show off this wonderful piercing, my hair is up and I'm ready to show the world.
To those who are worrying about this piercing, get it done. It hurts but it looks great. The pain, I guess for most people, is instantaneous. I was just unlucky to have an unwilling ear. Be prepared for pain, it probably won't hurt as much as you think it will. It looks fantastic though so go out there and get that rook piercing.
I now think i've refuelled my love for piercings. Damn, that's more money I have to go out and spend.
