This experience is about how I did my own Nies/slip piercings.

I was at home one night after work, and my husband had just left for his job as a security officer, and I was bored out of my skull. There was nothing good on TV, I had just got out of the shower after going swimming, and had to go to work the next day, so that meant a boring night at the house alone.

As I was standing in front of the mirror in the bathroom drying off, I became aware that my earlobes looked a little too bare, especially toward the front part of them. I went to the desk in the bedroom, and picked up a fine point Sharpie, and returned to the bathroom.

I stood in front of the mirror again, removed the cap from the pen, and marked a dot on the very front part of my earlobe( the part where it joins to my head), and looked at it for a few minutes. I had never seen anyone with this piercing before, and I thought this would look pretty cool.

I did the same on the other ear, making sure it was even with the other one, and liked what I saw. I went to my sewing kit and got two fairly thick needles. ( I know this is really a bad thing, but this was a spontaneous venture). I then went to my jewelry box and found two 16g circular barbells, and returned to the bathroom with all of my goodies.

I soaked both needles and the jewelry in a clean cup with hot water with Dial antibacterial soap for ten minutes or so while I watched the news on TV. Then I returned to the bathroom, wiped my lobes with a cotton ball and alcohol. I washed my hands with the Dial soap, and rinsed off the needles and jewelry, and set them on the counter on a clean paper towel.

I unscrewed one ball on each piece of jewelry, and placed them back on the paper towel. I picked up one of the needles, and pulled back my ear so I could get the needle straight through without hitting the side of my head. I took a deep breath, and exhaled slowly as I put the needle through. It was a little difficult to push it through, but it really wasn't painful, just a bit of pressure. I got the needle all the way through up to the needle's eye.

I picked up one of the barbells, and put it up to the eye part of the needle, grabbed the needle on the back of my ear, and started to pull it out,at the same time pushing the jewelry in from the front of the ear. This hurt quite a bit, but I wasn't going to stop now. I felt the jewelry come through the backside of the ear, and removed the needle and set it back on the counter.

I adjusted the jewelry, and screwed on the ball. One down, one to go!

I repeated the same procedure on the left ear, and this one hurt a little more, but was still tolerable. Finally finished, I checked out my handiwork in the mirror. They looked soooo cool!! They were a little pink, but nothing to worry about, so I cleaned them with the Dial soap, and blotted them dry with a clean paper towel. I cleaned up the counter, and put the needles into an old prescription bottle to take to work the next day for disposal.

I was still feeling the adrenaline at this point, so I took my dogs out for a long walk, and my ears didn't bother me a bit. I showed my co-workers the piercings the next day, some of them liked them, some said I was weird (oh well!). Anyway, I like them, and that's all that matters. They are still at 16g., and that's where they will stay.

If you want something a little different, give this piercing a try. It didn't hurt too badly, but everyone is different, and pain is relative.

However, I made quite a few mistakes doing them myself, even though they turned out beautifully. If I had to do it again, I would go to a professional. It's really a job for them.

Fast forward to today.

Now I am very glad to see that these piercings have a name. Back when I did them, no one had ever seen them before, and some people really gave me some strange looks, especially if I wore some 16g CBRs with long dangling earrings attached. But I don't care. These piercings are a lot of fun, and are very cute. Sometimes I wear 16g labret studs in them, but mostly I stick with the original circular barbells that I did them with. I am so glad that I did them, and they were the first piercings that I did on my own, so they are truly mine. I later did helix ladders on both ears, but that's a story for another time.

Happy modding!
