Well, it was an accident really, hadn't planned it at all.

We went into the piercer's and sat waiting in the waiting room. My friend was getting gradually more and more nervous about her piercing. I kept telling her it would be alright and it was. I went in and held her hand and it was all over in seconds- the piecer was great and she thanked me for advising her to go to Studio 9.

But then I got the itch, the strange crave you get when you see someone getting a piercing, so I turned to the piercer and said to him that I would like a new piercing but wasn't sure what to get. He took me to the waiting room where he showed me lots of pictures and looked at my ears. He then told me what he thought would be best showing me a photo and asking me what I thought. I agreed with him and after spending some time talking and discussing piercings I settled on the daith. Being able to look at a number of photos really helped me to be able to decide on which piercing I wanted next.

I went to town got out some money, bought the twirl (my piercing chocolate) and went back to Studio 9 to get it done. After filling in the form we were lead into the room were I laid down as he dotted my ear to discuss the position of the piercing, he had to use the clamp to do the planning as the daith is a fiddly piercing. Looking at the dots I decided on one which I thought looked the best. Rob (the piercer agreed) and so he clamped my ear. Everything was very clean, tissue had been laid out, I had had my ear sterilised and the equipment had come straight from the packets sealed in the Studio 9 sterilizing room! He took the needle and pierced the daith. To be honest the piercing didn't hurt as much as I thought it would, but it did hurt!

He had some trouble getting the tube and ring to slide through; my cartilage was thick so it was harder to move the tube around. Rob cut the tube and tried again, still it was not going to budge. I thought this was quite funny and continued my conversation with Rob, who kept me informed about what was going on- which really helped. Throughout the piercing I felt relaxed and reassured which was very good and actually made the experience fun! He had already asked me what size ring I wanted put in- I wasn't sure so he showed me the different sizes. Looking at my ear he advised me on what he thought would look good. Seen as I couldn't see my ear I agreed with him. On the third attempt the ring slid easily into my ear and the ball was attached- easy. I laid there for a little while and felt fine so sat up. He got a mirror and showed me the piercing- I was over the moon it looked amazing the ring size was perfect! It hurt but it was defiantly worth it.

After the piercing we continued to chat to Rob while I ate my twirl, we weren't rushed out or away but instead stayed for a conversation and a little nosey behind the scenes. He also told me how to look after the piercing- as I had had a few before I knew how to care for a piercing but Rob gave me some handy hints to make it easier to care for, such as using tea tree oil to help with the healing process which I found to be very useful. Not only was it nice to be informed about my piercing and how to care for it but it was really nice to be able to have a conversation with the piecer and to feel welcome- its strange but in other studios I have felt a bit like something on a conveyor belt- in, pierce, out, but Studio 9 was very good; making you feel like a valued customer and not a piece of meat. There was a friendly atmosphere throughout mine and my friend's piercings which were done to a good standard.

I was very impressed with the quality of the piercing in Studio 9. Not only had I received lots of advice about the piercing and the after care but on the spur of the moment I was able to have it done without having to make an appointment. Throughout the piercing process Rob had a conversation going which reassured me and helped me to remain calm and relaxed, he even managed to calm my friend down who really does not like needles! Studio 9 is a very nice looking place as well, not only is it very clean but the decoration is very modern and interesting- defiantly the best piercers in Southend-on-Sea.
