I had asked my parents for over three years if i could get my cartilage pierced and they've always said no. Most of the people on my dads side of our family has tattoos and piercings since my uncle owns his own shop. They said no when I asked if I could get my tongue pierced and my dad said no belly button piercings, but i didn't really want either of those. I asked again 3 or 4 days ago if I could get my cartilage pierced and my mom said she'd talk to my dad. They talked for about 30 minutes then my dad came out and said if I can do this I have more balls then him haha and my mom said that I was mature enough now to get it done but on one condition, I had to get it done by my uncle who owns a Tattoo shop. I had no problem with that at all since I know him and I'm comfortable with him, I figured it would be much easier than going to a stranger. But, I was shocked they did actually say yes to me finally. At first the piercing question was a joke since they have said no over a hundred times before and I kind of just got over it and decided I would wait till I was 18. But, hearing them say yes was great. Then I was off to do alittle bit of research, I found over 2 dozen people saying that it was very painful but I assumed I could push myself through the pain since I wanted it so much.

I got home from school and then we all left to go to my uncles shop. On the way to the shop I was fine and then when we were about 5 minutes away I got real nervous and started to chicken out but then my dad called me a chicken and said it would hurt like crazy, it made me want to do it even more. I had read alot that this is a very very painful piercing so of course I had been alittle afraid of finally getting it done. My mom was more nervous about it than me though, but she was still fine with it. She even offered to hold my hand like she had when i was 5 and getting my ear lobes pierced at Wal-Mart with the piercing gun, that kind of made me feel like a young child again so I told her I would rather her not hold my hand while I get the piercing done.

We got to the shop and we talked with my uncle, he let me pick out the size of the earring and said that the two sizes he had picked out wouldn't really matter with pain levels and that it would all be the same.He washed his hands, put gloves on, put some paper thing on my shirt so blood wouldn't get on it, cleaned my ear with alcohol type stuff, and put a dot on my ear. He asked if I wanted him to count before he did it and I said no, I figured it would be much easier not knowing when he was doing it. So, he was telling me how long the cartilage would take to heal up and about touching it with dirty hands, and how i should change my pillow case almost everyday, and how to clean it good and to not sleep on the side of my head with the piercing, so the piercing doesn't get infected or get ripped out or hurt as bad. Then, he finally stuck the needle through my ear, it didn't hurt half as bad as I thought it would. I did bleed though, which he cleaned up. I can already tell this is going to be one of the best birthday presents I get this year. I love my uncle's shop and how clean it is. I thought most shops were sort of dirty since I was in a horrible one a year ago and hadn't been to Jackhammer Tattoo Co. since I was 12 but the shop is definately great and I love my new piercing, I hope to get him to pierce and tattoo me alittle more after I turn 18. This is definately my favorite piercing so far and with very little pain.

I have bumped my ear a few times messing with my hair now, but it hasn't been a horrible pain which I am very greatful for. My piercing is now exactly 3 hours old and I love it. I would definately recomend getting your cartilage pierced if you're thinking about it. Don't worry about the pain at all go in tell them not to count, bite your lip and curse like a sailor if it is painful.
