Well when I was 11, I finally had my ears pierced, after much fuss with my mum having to push me into it and everything. I was soon delighted with the pretty earrings I could buy for my ears.

A couple of years later, I met Claire. Claire had an industrial, both her ears gauged, both her nipples done, and her tongue done. Soon I became totally fascinated with ear stretching and decided to stretch my own.
After doing this (I'm currently at 10mm) I then re-thought having an industrial done. After reading the stories on BMEzine about them, I got scared away from doing it and considering the pain people were said to have endured put me off quite a bit. So I shoved the idea to the back of my mind and tried to forget about it. Yet the idea kept coming back into my head. I'd be looking at tunnels and then my eyes would wander to industrial bars.
Finally I decided I definitely wanted it done, so I confronted my mother. Now she wasn't best pleased about me having my ears stretched, so I pretty much knew her reaction would be a straight no. To my surprise, she said it looked ok. I then asked her about having it done, and she said she'd think about letting me. I carried on asking her every now and then and she always said no. When we started the summer holidays this year, I asked her once again, and she finally said she would let me. I was ecstatic. Now I can't say I wasn't nervous, because my legs were like jelly and I was considering backing out before I even walked in the shop! But we went to eat at McDonald's first, to calm my nerves a bit.
I then traipsed her up to Celtic Art Tattoos in Chesterfield yesterday. I chose this tattoo parlour as it's very clean, and a nice atmosphere, the people there are very friendly, and many of my friends have gone there for tattoos/piercings. I went in and told them what I wanted, with a big grin on my face. It wasn't very busy that day, so she said she could fit me in straight away. I got asked to sign the usual papers of alcohol use, age and such, but didn't get asked for ID. Rita, my piercer, then led me down the stairs into the piercing parlour.
She asked me to sit down on the chair and took the needle and the barbells out of the packaging straight in front of me, to show me they were new. She then marked the places the piercings were going to go, and made sure that the bar would fit snug. She let me check them in the mirror and then explained she'd have to put two bars in for a couple of months until it felt more comfortable and then I could go back and get it changed, free of charge. Soon after, she told me they weren't aloud to use any anaesthetic on it, which as you can imagine, made me feel MILEEEEEES better! By this time I could barely speak I was so nervous. I usually dealt well with pain, but I knew this would be different. She explained she was going to do the top hole first, as all her other clients said this one hurt the most.
She cleaned the surrounding area and lined the needle up and told me to breathe in and out and to close my eyes so I wouldn't realise what was happening. I then felt her push the needle into my ear for what felt like an eternity, and I heard "the crunch" as people call it when the needle passes through your cartilage. This was by far the most painful experience I've ever had in my life. I then felt a bit light-headed, so when she asked me to go and look in the mirror, I had to sit down for a couple of minutes to get my balance back. When I stood up and looked in the mirror, a huge grin spread all the way across my face. I sat down for a few minutes while I was still feeling faint, and then told her I was ready for the next one. Unlike the first one where I felt everything of it, I only felt the needle go in, and come out, of the bottom one. I then felt her putting the barbells in, which was by far the most painful part, and as she twisted on the balls, I could hear the internal thread in my ear. Next she cleaned the marker pen off of my ear with an antiseptic wet wipe. Both piercings together hurt far more than the lobe, but far less than the cartilage. None of them bled at all, which was surprising. She gave me aftercare instructions, and explained that I had to clean them twice daily with a sea salt solution. I looked at them in the mirror and immediately fell in love with them. I just can't wait until I can go and get them changed to a bar!!
After all the pain I had to go through to get them, it was all well worth it and I'd do it all again if I had to :D
If you're considering having this piercing and are scared about the pain, the truth is, it does hurt a lot, but it is very rewarding when you see your new jewellery in your ear =D The two pictures below are my freshly done industrial =]
