Rook!

This was my second cartilage piercing! My first was the tragus and of course, after the tragus I caught the piercing bug and could not wait to get another piercing.

The day of, I sat at school telling people how happy I was to get my second piercing (and so soon after the tragus!). This was a pretty big shocker since I'm known as the easy going but still pretty reserved girl. Of course everyone was very supportive, who wouldn't want me to embrace my wild side! I was surprised by how many people told me this was the most painful piercing.

"Be ready for the worst"

"I heard this one is by far the hardest to pierce"

I was pumped! Hey, if I could handle the tragus pain free, why not push myself!!

Later that afternoon myself and my friend arrived at the piercing studio. I, obviously was getting my rook, my buddy was getting her daith done.

When asked who wanted to go first, my hand shot up right away. No way was I prolonging the experience any further!!

My friend insisted on coming into the room with me but I told her I wanted her to stand where I couldn't see her. I did NOT want to see her facial expression if anything went horribly wrong.

They cleaned my ear, checked out my tragus to see how it was healing and finally marked my ear with a pen.

We all chatted for a couple minutes as the autoclave machine was still sterilizing the ring, needle, receiving tube, etc. I was getting pretty nervous at this point, but strangely excited too. The thought of walking out of the store with a new piece of jewelry in my ear thrilled me to pieces.

The moment came!! He lined up the receiving tube and told me I'd feel a little poke as he lined up the needle. I started taking deep breathes and on the second exhale he pushed the needle through. The needle went through amazingly smooth!! Less then two seconds and that bad boy was out the other side. Pain wise, it felt like pressure, that's it. Pinching your rook with your finger nail hurts more then the actual piercing.

Next he started to place the ring in. That went through quick and easy. He took about 5 minutes to get the ball on. The piercing guy said he wanted the ball nice and tight.

During those 5 minutes he yanked on my head a hell of a lot. I mean, it freaking' hurt! Felt mort like he was tugging on the entire ring. I gritted my teeth and smiled, the worst was over right!

After he told me to get up slowly, in fear of fainting, and asked me to go check it out in the mirror. I absolutely adored it! It looked gorgeous with my tragus! There was no blood either, and the swelling, minimal compared to my tragus!

That night the dull throb came as expected. I popped in two advils and went to the movies with the girls. That night, I slept on my one side with no piercings and was extremely happy I didn't roll over on it that night.

The next morning, the pain is wow. I can't even put into words how painful the piercing was. My entire top portion of my ear was sore and bruised. It felt like that type of bruising where it's too deep under the skin that you don't get that blue mark, yet it's just as painful. I can describe it as someone who punched me in the head.

For the next week my ear was like that. Everytime I bumped it the dull throb would start. I also booked a hair appointment that week too. Big mistake. I did give my hair stylist the heads up about the rook piercing and how it was really sore. As hard as she tried not to bump it, she still did. I grimaced every time and she apologized like crazy so I knew she wasn't doing it on purpose. Needless to say, after I walked out of the hair salon I had a monster headache. Hugging people you also have to be careful!! If I hugged on the wrong side, people would squish my ear between there neck and shoulder and immediately I would tense up in pain! Cleaning it was a b**** too. Trying to clean it with the anti-bacterial soap almost drove me crazy the pain was so bad but I stuck through it.

About one week later the pain was gone. My ear was touchable again, likewise with the rook too. Like I said before, I figured it was bruising and apparently, that pain all over the ear is quite common with the rook piercing so don't fret like I did!!

All in all, this piercing was totally worth it to me! I recommend it completely, and the pain is only temporary remember that!!!
