I must admit that I hadn't really planned on getting this piercing, I was in fact in Hedonism with my friend giving her moral support for getting her lip done. I waited inside for her while she went to get some money out of the cash point and stood looking at the price list pondering to myself. Saw rook on there for £15 and I thought I may as well get it done seeing as I was there already and its not a lot of money. I had been thinking about getting a new piercing and getting my rook done was quite a vague idea at the time - I have a tendency to get piercings done on a bit of a whim which probably isn't the best way to go about it! But I figure if I end up not liking them I can always take them out - and I enjoy the process of getting pierced anyway. I must say, the smell of Hedonism does make me happy - there is a slight hospital-like nature to it. Which is obviously a good thing as it reassures you that its clean, but you can tell that it is anyway. It is a very professional atmosphere - very friendly staff too - really put you at ease even though they are about to hurt you!

And so I signed my consent form and stuff and went upstairs - only had to wait for about 3 minutes which was cool. Went in and I was pleased cause it was the same girl that did my lip piercing so I felt safe. She told me she liked me hair which was a good start! (I had a red and blue mohawk at the time) I rambled on about exams while she got her stuff ready. I was meant to be revising not getting pierced, but she seemed pleased with my choice of distraction!

Once ready she informed me of some lovely information, that it wouldn't be numbed. I didn't really mind tho - I figured anything was better than revision! And so she just got on with it, no count downs or anything thank god - they make me nervous! She put the needle through and it was pretty painful although not particularly unpleasant. It's more of a burning sensation than anything else, so then she put my ring in and all was done! There was only a tiny bit of bleeding and I didn't notice any swelling (although I imagine there would have been some).

It's been 2 and a half months now and healing has been interesting. The day I got it done me and my girlfriend had a get together at hers involving alcohol and she kept thinking it was funny to hit me in the ear. So it kinda bled the first night and was rather sore! But the good thing I found with the placement of this piercing is that it doesn't tend to get knocked around, although it is also rather difficult to clean this part of your ear. After about a month it didn't hurt much at all and so I stopped cleaning it as much - big stupid mistake as it then got infected. (Sorry to be graphic but...) We experienced some lovely greenish ooze coming out of it which was quite gross but also rather impressive! A few days of salt soaks and it soon cleared up with no problems. I think the lesson to be learned here is to keep on cleaning it even if it seems to healed - pretty obvious now I think about it..

Healing is going well now although it's a little bit sore if my ear gets bashed around. I think this is cause i sleep on it - cause i have since got my tragus and industrial done in my other ear. Also I changed the ring to a bar a week ago and the ear got a bit traumatised cause i spent ages trying to screw the ball on the end so it got pulled about rather a lot. The bar looks great tho - I only got it done with a ring in the first place cause it was cheaper. Although I think it would probably heal better with a bar cause I had a tendency to keep playing with the ring (I'm such a fidget)

Overall it can be a little bit of a pain to look after this one - but its a great piercing to have and i don't regret it at all. It's a big hit with my friends and I don't know anyone else with one which makes me feel special. I think the main thing is to just persevere with cleaning. And also its probably better to get it pierced with a bar rather than a ring! Pain wise it isn't that bad - its the healing afterwards which can be awkward cause of it being tucked away.

Go and get one, you know u wanna! It looks really cute, and its also quite discreet so shouldn't been too much of a problem for job interviews and stuff like that
