My name is Paige. I am 17 years old and I currently have 7 piercings. I used to have 13 but I recently took some out to get an industrial, which I later took out. This brings me to my most recent piercing. I was bored one day and I was thinking, Hey, I have two piercings in my right ear and 4 in my left. I need to even things out a little bit. I had broken my industrial up into two rings instead of the barbell (a compromise between my mom and I). So I was looking through pictures on BME and I saw the Snug. Now, this is one that I had told myself looked funny a year ago when I was getting my first piercing. For some reason when I looked at it that day it just hit me that I had to have my snug pierced. It was one of those weird things that you just get drawn to no matter how hard you try and avoid it.

I had been mulling it over in my head as to when I should bring this one up to my mom. Every piercing I've ever gotten was on the condition that it was my last. She was extremely unhappy with my last one so I was extremely scared to ask, but I knew I had to. I finally got up the nerve to ask. It was a really nice day outside and I wanted to celebrate with a piercing. I called my mom and asked her how mad she'd be if I got my ear pierced. She asked what I wanted and I told her. She said that was fine because she agreed my ears were uneven and really did look funny.

My friend and I drove to the mall and we headed straight for Expo. I walked in and started looking at the jewelry. I really wanted a dark blue 16 gauge ring. They said that the piercings were done with either 18 gauge or 14, depending on what it was. They didn't have a single 16 gauge ring in the place. I was a little mad but I didn't really care in the long run how thick the hoop was. I filled out the papers first. It took me a good ten minutes to decide on what color ring I wanted. I have mostly black ones in my ears because at work we're supposed to wear black and red. They didn't have any red rings and I didn't really want yet another black ring in my ear. I chose a dark purple ring because it was different. The cashier that worked there said it'd be $34 and I paid up. I was so excited.

We (my friend, me, and the piercer) headed back to the little piercing room. He asked me if I was nervous and I told him I was. This was the first piercing that I hadn't psyched myself out about yet. I hopped into the chair and just sat there with my hands clenched in my lap. I was trying to calm myself down. For some reason I always get really nervous until the needle is at my flesh. Weird huh? He asked what ear and I told him left. He asked if I thought getting my rook done sucked and I said no. The pain level for rook and snug are about the same so that calmed me down a lot. He got the clamps out and clamped my ear, brought the needle to my ear, shoved, and voila! I have a new piercing. Nothing about it was painful except for the wind blowing on it the next day.

I showed my mom when I got home. I was actually excited about showing her because she had already approved me getting it done. She was a little shocked because it's not exactly what she thought I was talking about. She doesn't hate it though. In her words, "I'll never approve but I don't despise it." Hey, that's better than coming home with an industrial and being told that either the piercing goes or I do. That was rough.

It is easy to bump into this piercing, but it's not extremely painful. I'm keeping it clean with sea salt and piercing cleaner that you get from Claire's or wherever. I've had it for about a month and I can sleep on it when I clean it right before I go to bed. I've been looking all over for 18 gauge curved barbells because I think it'd be cute with a barbell too. It's kind of hard to find them. That's the only downfall for me.

I love this piercing. It's so awesome. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants a unique piercing.
