Ever since I began getting pierced I have always been intrigued by the oh so exciting piercing known as a daith. I have been planning on getting it done but every time I went to the piercing shop it was always something else that I ended up getting done. So one day I decided it was the day.
So after a good but boring day at school I decided to call and make sure the piercer was going to be in... he was! So at the end of the day me and two friends went to the piercing studio.
My one friend went first, she was really nervous and said that if she did not go first then she would not be going at all. She got her tongue pierced (which went well). Then my other friend got her nose pierced which bled like crazy and then it was my turn (I do not know how I ended up going last... it seems like I always do)!
I headed into the back with the piercer and I got comfortable on the chair/table thing. I watched as the piercer put on a fresh pair off gloves and removed all the tools he would be using during the procedure... clamp, ring, needle, all that stuff.
He turned my head to one side and cleaned my ear with what I assumed to be an alcohol wipe. He asked me were about I wanted the piercing to be, I said that I wanted it as high as he could possibly put it. So he placed marks and had me look in the mirror. They were kind of low, I could see the marks so I did not think they were placed as high as they could be. So he happily remarked me and this time it was very hard to see the marks in my ear but after turning my head to every angle possible and with the help of a second mirror, I could almost make out the purple dot for the bottom part, which from what I could tell looked good to me. He thought that it should be moved down a little bit, and I was still happy with it so in the end I decided to trust his judgement!
So now that we had the mark placed, I had to deal with the clamps. First off when he put the clamps on they were not in the right position so he had to take them off and try again. This time they were good. So now comes the worst part. He had me breath in and out deeply a couple of times then asked if I was ready. I said yes, just as I said yes I felt a hot jabbing pain sear though my ear... apparently I'm a "kicker"...
Quickly the needle was removed and the ring was slid in. Now came the tricky part, getting the ball on. It was difficult because of the positioning of the piercing and the lack of space in that particular place in my ear. After a couple minutes the ball was securely in!
I happily paid and me and my friends were on our way. We drove to the nearest mall were we all bought Q-tips, soap and Epsom salt. After some more shopping we all grabbed something to eat. By now my ear was throbbing it was really painful. The next morning was awful I had to try and clean this thing. So I got off to a good start but when it came to turning the ring I had to stop, it hurt so excruciatingly bad, I stopped in fear that I was damaging the piercing. So I just cleaned all the soap off with warm water and dried it. The following morning I was able to clean it properly and all seemed to be going really well, except I now had a very purple bruise on my daith!
After about 1 week the bruising and swelling went away. I could clean it easily and the piercing is in such a position that it does not get caught on anything!
After about a month I went back to my piercers to have the initial ring changed to a much smaller ring! It's so cute, and by far my favorite piercing so far!
It's been about two and a half months now and it is healing really well however a small keloid has formed on the top hole but at least it's not that noticeable. I have been doing salt soaks, they seem to be helping.
So if you can stand not using headphones for a while (which is just about killing me) and you really like this piercing then you should get it done. It does not get knocked around a lot like other piercing's, you won't regret it!
Have Fun!
