On January 3rd, which was 4 days ago, I went to go get my tongue pierced at Knysna B.M.E. I had been wanting it for so long, but the woman said she couldn't because it was against her policy to pierce those with braces. Me and my boyfriend left, with me pouting, complaining about how I'd have to wait 'til October.
At A Glance Author Janelle Contact Janelle@bme.anon When A week ago Artist Krystal Studio Schmatta Location Saskatoon, SK As we were walking to Midtown, we passed by Schmatta, which one of my friends said was one of the best piercing places in Saskatoon for cleanliness and people. I was like, "I wanted to pierce my ear before school." He asked me if I wanted to and I was like, "Yes."
We went inside and I asked if they could do an ear piercing. The girl asked where I wanted it and I showed her my anti-tragus. She asked me to pick out the jewelry and told me the prices of each one. I chose the horseshoe, which costs $34. It was the second cheapest jewelry they had; the cheapest being $24. I like what I chose though.
The girl told me to sit down and wait as Krystal prepared the room. Me and my boyfriend, Brandon, just kind of smiled in excitement. I wasn't so much nervous, which suprised me a lot. I'm usually really nervous and shaky with piercings. I have my cartlidge, middle cartlidge, lobes, and doubles pierced, which were all done by a gun, so I kind of expected myself to be nervous about my first needle piercing. Perhaps because a tongue is so much worse than an ear, it settled me down and I thought subconciously that it wouldn't be as bad.
Krystal called me into the room and began to explain the cleaning process to me. She got me to sit up on the bed as she washed her hands and got out the clean needles and earring. She told me she'd just give me a hand out on the cleaning afterwards though because it would be hard to remember how to do it or something.
Now to the actual piercing. I pulled my hair out of the way and she cleaned my ear. She grabbed a marker and marked two small dots on it, where she'd enter and exit. She told me to lie down, facing the mirror, on my side. She told me to take a deep breath, exhale, and then we'd do it again after. I did, and as I did, in went the needle. It was completely disgusting. It hurt a lot too. I could feel her ripping through the tissue layers, but not ONLY that, I could hear it. I could hear like a juicy sound. Like, the sound of something kind of crunchy with liquid? The way I kind of picture crabs or crayfish when you squeeze them. It was disgusting. I was twitching when she put the needle through because it did hurt quite a bit. She told me she was going to put the horseshoe in and that I should take another deep breath. I did, and in when the earring. It didn't hurt as much as the needle, but it did hurt a bit. She gave me a few seconds to recover and then she told me she was just going to screw the balls in. She was kind of rough with it, but it didn't hurt or anything. My ear was burning, but it wasn't a bad feeling. She cleaned up the blood and told me it was over. She handed me one of the sheets on the cleaning and that was that.
The piercing hurt a bit for the first 2 days. It felt kind of sticky to the inside of my ear, like the tissue was grabbing the metal. The worst part was smiling though. Every time I smiled, it ached. It still somewhat does now, but it isn't nearly as bad as before. If I think about how it aches when I smile, I can still feel it slightly, but if I don't then I don't notice.
The earring is doing well. I can move it up and down and side to side, even though I was told not to. My friend told me I might get a bump because her tragus did, but I don't know. It doesn't feel to bad to sleep on unless the pressure is on it all, but if I turn my head slightly then it feels a lot more comfortable.
Overall, the piercing was a really good experience. I like it a lot and it was well worth it. If you're thinking about it, just do it. Impulse is the best because it doesn't let any nervousness build up beforehand. Good luck.
(Side Note: I'm getting my tongue pierced by someone else in February. The guy I spoke to was from Pic-Man and told me he had never had a problem with piercing those with braces. He says he does it all the time.)
