I had wanted a Tragus piercing for a while and at that stage my friends and I were just calling it "that knobby bit." I wasn't sure if I actually wanted the piercing, or whether I thought I might like it. We all forgot about it pretty quickly, you know how passing fads are.
At A Glance Author Medea Contact Medea@bme.anon When It just happened Studio The Cool Room Location Adelaide, Australia Four months later I had seen a girl on the train with her Tragus done and I thought to myself, "I really DO like that. I wonder if it would hurt." I "Google Image" searched for a bit and discovered the piercing I wanted was actually my Tragus, not "that knobby bit."
I'd discusses it with a few people I knew after that and they all told me they had friend who had had it done but they would never recommend it to anyone. They all said it had hurt like mad and got infected really easily (which made sense at the time because it's right next to the ear hole) so that put me off for another 3 months or so.
Three weeks ago, my interest sparked up again. This time, I made a booking before anyone could talk me out of it. I only told my friends and the people I worked with about it an hour before I got it done. They tried to talk me out of it, of course, but I was determined. I had had my lobes pierced 5 times before so I figured it would be a breeze.
I rocked up to the salon and let the girl who would be doing the piercing know I was there. I had sat outside for about 15 minutes with my palms sweating because I was nervous. I had no idea what to expect. The first thing I was asked was what exactly I had wanted done and in which ear. I suppose that was because she wanted to make sure she would be able to do it. I told her I wanted my left ear done.
I was asked to read through a small booklet first. It was pretty interesting. It explained all the aftercare instructions plus what I should do if I was worried about my piercing.
When she took me into the piercing room I was still quite nervous. She had set up before I'd gone in so everything was already sterilised. She explained to me about how she would be doing the piercing and the sterilising techniques she had used. Everything was individually wrapped. She showed me how the arrows on the packet had turned brown from blue, indicating that the sterilizations process was complete.
I asked her if it would hurt and she laughed. "Everyone asks me that," she said "I tell them it depends on their pain threshold." That sounded fair enough to me. She asked me to lay down and prepared my ear for the piercing.
I had always heard that the clamps hurt more then the piercing. I didn't feel them at all. I didn't even feel the needle or hear the "pop" everyone talks about. I felt a slight sting as the needle pushed through the other side of my ear only.
"Is that it?" I asked her. I thought, surely thats not it.
"Yep, that's the worst part over. I just have to put the jewelry in, now." I had no choice in jewelry unfortunately as they only use standard stainless steel. I didn't feel that going through either.
I had worried about nothing! It was completely painless. Thinking back now, I would rather have a normally influenza injection. That hurts a lot more.
My ear bled a lot. More then normal, she had said. I was a bit worried and asked her if I'd have to take it out. She said it would stop bleeding after a little while and there was nothing to be concerned with. While she was cleaning up my ear she explained the aftercare instructions to me. It all seemed pretty straight forward. My ear had stopped bleeding when she finished.
She made sure I understood about aftercare. She asked me a lot of questions and was quite happy with my answers. I was rather impressed with myself as well.
I walked out with an absolutely gorgeous piercing. My ear wasn't even swollen or red. It was fantastic and I would completely recommend it and her to anyone (I'll have to ask what her name is next time though). I loved it so much I even made a booking for two weeks time to have my left Rook pierced.
I'm extremely happy that I didn't listen to people when they tried to turn me off having my Tragus pierced. It has opened a whole new door to me and I'm not sure when I will be able to close it.
