It was my 18th birthday coming up and I was looking to get something pierced. I have my lobes done (of course), cartilage on my left ear, and rook on my right, which I got last summer as a birthday present from my best friend. This year I went with said friend to get my snug pierced because I thought that would balance out my ears and because it wasn't too common -- I hadn't seen it on anyone that I could remember. I get so many comments on my rook, and I love playing with it now that it's all healed. I'm the type of person who is, as my ex-boyfriend would say, kind of "fidget-y" (I don't like to sit still, too much energy I suppose) and playing with my various earrings keeps me entertained. Plus, ears is all I'm allowed to get done until I move out, which will be relatively soon.

We cooled off with some Starbucks frapps before heading over to the piercing place. I was sporting the aviators circa 1984 that I stole from my dad, thinking I was pretty cool, haha. We got into the piercing place and sat down on the comfy couches and talked about the tattoo she was going to get soon. We were taking random pictures while we were waiting to go into the piercing room as well. The piercing, we were told, would be $80 ($5 knocked off because it was my birthday) and my friend agreed to pay for half of it. I had picked out a 16G barbell with pink jewels and I was pretty excited. My rook had hurt a lot, but I figured that since the snug is in a little less of an awkward position, it would be less painful. I was correct in that assumption. The piercer chatted us up for a bit, effectively calming me down as much as I think I could be. He told me that my ear was clear anywhere for a snug (because I guess some people's ears have certain spots where one might pierce a blood vessel) and marked the spot. I was nervous, but once the clamp was on and I felt the needle go through my ear and I heard the "crunch" noise, it was all over. I had felt my face twist into some weird expression, which I will try never to repeat as I'm sure it was unflattering. I was surprised about the lack of pain. It was more of a slight discomfort. I got up, looked at my ear and fell in love. I listened intently to my piercer's lecture on not getting into fights (I don't know if I can control that one, haha), etc. and then we were off to go eat some cake at my house. My mom even liked my piercing! She said she liked it better than my rook, which at the beginning she didn't approve of. It's odd because she always says she would let me get a tattoo. My dad hasn't noticed it yet; I don't think he's even noticed my rook. I believe he thinks they're just regular piercings.
I have tried to keep my hands off the piercing and attempted to keep others away from it. But it was my last day at work yesterday and one of the girls went to give me a hug and smooshed my ear. It hurt like no other! And that was after I had accidently smacked it with the phone at my till. I definitely need to be more careful. I was shocked that I didn't somehow ruin it when I went clubbing later that day on my birthday. I wasn't drunk enough, probably, haha. It's weird to be sleeping on the other ear now though, because I am so used to sleeping on my left to avoid my rook. I really recommend this piercing to everyone. It's not as painful as some others and it's really cute, but that is just my opinion.
Of course now, my ear is swollen, bruised, and red, but it has only been 4 days. I am cleaning it with epsom salts, which worked on my rook. One of my friends actually gave me that idea, because sea salts weren't working for my rook initially, but epsom salts had worked on her navel piercings so I thought I would give it a try. I recommend it. In a couple of weeks, I'm going back to get the barbell changed to a shorter one. That will be just before I move to Ontario.
Anyway, with my five holes, I think my ears are nicely balanced with piercings. I'll just have to find a new spot for my next piercing!
