My mom always said that as soon as I went off to college, I was going to go crazy with piercing and tattoos. The only other piercing that I have that I got done at a piercing/tattoo shop was my tragus that I had done on August 12th. Ironically, the date that I got my rook done was September 12th. It was my friend Sara's birthday and we had all planned that we were going down to the Gas lamp Quarter (I go to school in San Diego) to go to a hookah bar. So we drove downtown and we didn't have anything to do for a couple hours and we drove by this piercing/tattoo shop. I was with 4 other girls and 3 of us wanted to get pierced. So I jumped out of the car, ran in to check out if they were a decent place, while they found a parking spot. It wasn't busy inside and they looked like a really clean place. I was asking about the prices and they were normal so I decided that we should stay and get pierced. The only thing left to do was figure out what I wanted to get pierced.

I knew that if I got any facial piercings, my mom would flip so I was trying to decide what else to get pierced. The ears were the only thing I knew she would be cool with and I knew that I didn't want to get my other tragus pierced. I had remembered my friend Amber and I were looking through a piercing book at the place that we got pierced at the month before and she had mentioned that she wanted to get the rook done. I had thought it was a cute little piercing but had never really considered ever getting it done. I asked him how much it would cost and he said it was $40. That was a good price so I asked the girls I was with if they thought I should get it done and they said yeah.

So all of us went into the back of the room where they pierce and my friend Ilene went first. She was getting her cartilage pierced and she was deathly afraid because it was her first real piercing. She got through it ok and the other girl we were with, Nicole, was getting her belly button pierced and she wasn't ready to go yet. So I was next. The guy, Joseph, cleaned everything up and marked my ear and told me to go look into the mirror to see if that's where I wanted to get it done. It was a good spot so I laid down and got ready. My friend Ilene was holding my hand the whole time so I knew it would be ok. He put the needle through and I didn't even have to squeeze my friends hand. She was amazed at how little pain it had caused me. But that wasn't the end of it. Next came the jewelry. It didn't hurt when the other guy put my jewelry in my tragus so I wasn't expecting this one to hurt either. Boy, was I wrong. The area that the piercing is in is so small and I got the rook on the same ear as my tragus and that still hurt from the month earlier. The guy who pierced me was well over 6 feet tall and he had huge hands. And for such a small area, this was going to be quite a trial.

I have never felt so much pain before in my life. The faces that I was making were priceless because they captured exactly what I was feeling. My friends took pictures and when I show them to people, they feel my pain just by looking at them. I was squeezing my friends hand and screaming and tears started rolling down my cheeks. Joseph said he was trying his hardest not to hurt me but I could understand because it was a small area and he had big hands. I couldn't wait for the ring to be in so I didn't have to endure anymore pain. It seemed like it was never going to end. But finally, Joseph was done and the ring was in. It was the cutest piercing ever!!! I called my mom as soon as I got it done and she wasn't exactly thrilled but she knows that I'm going through a phase so she's over it. Everyone I went with was happy that I got it done. All they could say the whole night was, "It's so dainty!"

It's been almost a month since I got my rook pierced and it hasn't caused me any problems so far. It's supposed to be completely healed in 2-3 months so I'm excited. Now, the 12th of every month is our designated "piercing" night where we get all of our friends together that want to get pierced or tattooed, and we go. It was such a spur of the moment thing the first time that we wanted to recapture that moment every month. So now, on October 12th, we're going back to Superfly to have Joseph pierce us because he was the most awesome guy ever!!! He was so laid back and knew so much about piercings, it was amazing. I haven't decided what I want to get done yet but I know that I'm going to get something. It was such a bonding moment with girls that I barely knew that it made us feel like we had known each other forever. Piercings bring all of us together and I'm happy that we have that in common. Although the rook hurt when I got it pierced, everyone's experience is diff erent. Just as long as you don't get your tragus done a month before the rook on the same ear, I think you'll be ok. It's one of the coolest piercing I have because not a lot of people have it. I get tons of compliments and I highly recommend getting it done.
