You may have read my 2 previous stories about my vertical tragus...well there is one last chapter to the story. As you know it became infected and I had to have it taken out at casualty....well.....from that day on they put me on antibiotics. I thought that this would settle everything down...but it didn't.

I was on really strong antibiotics that really knocked me out. I couldn't do anything when i was taking them I couldn't even eat! I lost nearly half a stone when I was taking these! I looked horrible as I was drained from the pain in my ear and I was loosing weight due to not being able to eat!

After about 1 week I started to develop a massive black lump behind my ear that was rock hard. All of my ear was swollen and hard too. The bump just kept on getting bigger even though I was on a heafty dose of antibiotics. I had to go to casualty again because the lump was beginning to become painful.

What happened next was probably the most painful thing that has ever happened to me. The doctor started to stick needles in the lump and my swollen ear. He was trying to drain a solid mass and I can tell you that I nearly passed out and threw up. I have never ever felt such pain.

I was laying out on a table in a room with a doctor getting upset that he couldn't drain it, and getting upset because I was swearing my head off. Every time I swore he kept making apologies. I just thought 'ok then just stop. You are not getting any of the stuff out of my ear! so just stop' but he didn't. He used about 10 needles in total. Each one only had a tiny bit of fluid in. This mass on my ear was pure hard infection and it looked horrible.

He just couldn't drain any of it so he said that I needed an urgent operation in order to remove the lump and take out all the destroyed tissue in my ear because if not it would get worse, and he didn't know just what damage it would cause. They admitted me the next morning and put me straight on intravenous antibiotics. I was on that for 4 days. They removed the lump and some of the dead tissue. At first my body had an allergic reaction to the antibiotics and my whole arm was itchy and red and swollen. I couldn't believe that there were more problems! they had to come and give me some antihistamines to take the swelling down and that seemed to work!

I now have slightly deformed cartilage on my right ear and a tiny little tragus as most of it was destroyed. I can never have any other piercings in this part of my ear as it will collapse. All of my ear canal is now very narrow and my ear feels weird to the touch. It doesn't actually look that bad unless you really stare at it. So I guess that is something to be happy about.

The hospital did a great job in trying to make my ear look normal again! All this happened just before christmas 2001! I came home the day before christmas! I am glad as it would have sucked spending all of christmas in hospital on a drip and with a massive bandage around my head!

It was a cool little piercing to begin with, but it turned into a nightmare. I caught it just in time. The infection could have made me deaf as it was just inches away from infecting my ear drum. i had a buzzing in my ear for the next 2 months and the redness and soreness remained for a good few months too...

I have never had a piercing that became infected and rejected before. I really looked after it too. The piercers were not very helpful as they said that all the swelling and stuff was normal when it fact it was the start of a very bad infection that if caught in time would not have caused me so much trouble and so much pain!

I honestly thought that I was going to be deformed for life and I cried my eyes out when they told me that I had to have an operation. When the doctor said that it would never look normal again I felt such anger and devastation. I felt so stupid! but it wasn't my fault. There have been problems with this piercing place before, but I am not at liberty to talk about this on here.

Good luck to anyone else who has or is planning on having this piercing done! Mail me if you want anymore information.
